Whats your Fort Awesomeness ?
For me theres a lotta awesomeness.

The very first awesomeness I had was,
"pulling up to the entrance of the Fort for the very first time."

another awesomeness is when the CM at check-in says "Welcome Home."

Aside from pulling into the Fort, we love a first trip to the Settlement and a view of the beach. :goodvibes

Awesomeness, it has to be the friendly, smart, good looking, generous, thoughtful, bus driver from NH who always asks if there are any Fiends on board. Ok, some of it is a stretch, especially the good looking part. But what the heck, it was worth a shot. Only a few of you have seen me.

One thing that I find awesome about the Fort is how it has generated such a big fan club for so long. It bothers me somewhat that Disney doesn't notice it. And even with all it's flaws, which are correctly pointed out here, it continues to do it, amazing. As might be expected, being an insider, I'm not affected by the Pixie dust as much as most of you, but I do understand it and do feel it when I'm there as well. Still a fan.

Rocking chairs at Crocketts and scoping out the new merchandise at the trading post.

Me too!

it's probably a tie between the barrels near Pioneer Hall where you get a foot massage and the tetherball pole on the beach. They spent a lot of time at both. The CM at check-in told them to check out the foot massage barrels and so every time they passed them it was "Mom, can I have a quarter for a foot massage. My feet are tired." Showing once again it's the little things that make the Fort fun.
For me, the flowers near Pioneer Hall. And of course, the showers. I can do tent camping for 7 days if there's a FW shower.

The two things at the top of my list for Fort Awesomeness are: Chip and Dale's Campfire Sing-a-long and Movie AND the Electric Water Parade. There are many others but these are currently at the top of my list (granted these are likely to change at any time...women's perogative and all).

My first time to WDW was in July 1972. We did not stay at the Fort. It had recently opened and I had and Aunt & Uncle who worked for Disney. We left the MK by boat (of course) and went to FW. I only went as far as the Settlement Depot (under construction) & what I believe was the 100 loop. I was in awe. We returned a year later & stayed there. The grocery supply trucks used to come by the campsites where you could purchase food from them. I think they used to call them FOT's, I think that meant Funny Old Truck's or something like that.

I still feel the thrill when I see Mickey as I enter Disney property and then the sign to turn into FW. It is like coming home after a long trip away.

Driving up the very first time with our camper in tow and seeing the kids on the edge of their seats will be tough to top for us.

During each visit, after setting up the camper we always take a bike ride with no destination in mind, just roaming around taking in everything.

There are many more, but these are the first two that I think of when reading your post.

I'm gonna be looking for all 3 of you in September!

Now to answer Frank's question. It's hard to beat the unexplainable excitiment of pulling into the entrance of FW and knowing what fun there is to be had inside. (Something I hope to be experiencing in about 12 weeks!)

WOW, now that is some awesomeness!!!!!

I visited the Fort a ton with my grandparents as a child and remembered the awesomeness of River Country. The first time I brought my kids there was early 2009. We were waiting at a bus stop and a crazy Mardi Gras decorated golf cart stopped and offered us a ride down to the Marina. I think my husband thought I was nuts when I said, "sure, thanks!" and hopped right on.
My 3yo DD lost her minnie ears on the golf cart ride, and I didn't realize it until we were already in the park. When we got back from the MK that night, her ears were sitting on the bench at our bus stop.
We still have the beads the driver gave us. It's a great memory.

Seeing my 4 year old sitting on a pony with the BIGGEST grin on her face!

Also, sitting under my awning early in the morning enjoying my first cup of coffee, while everyone else in my family is sleeping inside, and hearing the boat whistle for the first time.

Waking up at the Fort and drinking coffee outside as my DH sleeps:cloud9:. I love the wildlife and just sit quietly watching it.
Feeding all the birds that at the campsite,
I swear they tell all their friends and then they all show up:rotfl: Riding our bikes at dusk and seeing all the deer:cool1:
And the Campfire sing along and moviepopcorn::

I enjoy putting our three special needs kids in the GC and roaming..looping and all the rest. One on the front seat and the other two with their car seats secured on the rear platform, laughing at everything and anything. And there is the CM who helped us secure a good site for our last visit then visited us on site to be sure everything was to our liking.

Even though we came home without the 30 amp half of our generator, and therefore no front AC, it was a visit to the Fort and it was magical.

:woohoo: Ok, this thread is getting me all giddy for my upcoming trip....which I might add is LESS than 4 wks away. Now I'm feeling all giggly inside! My favorite awesome Fort moment is watching my boys itty bitty feet hit the sand at Bay Lake and take off running! I remember laughing and crying all at once! ....or was it the time DS was so excited about our first golf cart rental that he made up his own song about it while we were looping and sang it to the top of his lungs. It could be those first pony rides or the first boat ride to MK. The more I think about it the harder it gets to pick just one moment or activity. I love this thread and I LOVE THE FORT!
