Fort Awesomeness

I enjoy putting our three special needs kids in the GC and roaming..looping and all the rest. One on the front seat and the other two with their car seats secured on the rear platform, laughing at everything and anything. And there is the CM who helped us secure a good site for our last visit then visited us on site to be sure everything was to our liking.
.

I have a s/n child too! How did you secure the car seat on the back? We have improvised in the past and I've been trying to figure out a better way of securing him so he doesn't jump out of the cart!

Awesomeness, it has to be the friendly, smart, good looking, generous, thoughtful, bus driver from NH who always asks if there are any Fiends on board. Ok, some of it is a stretch, especially the good looking part. But what the heck, it was worth a shot. Only a few of you have seen me.

As one of the only few who have met/saw you, you are an awesome bus driver and probably the most friendly one we met the entire trip! And I have to say when you asked if there were any Fort Fiends on the bus, you had everyone, but me of course, looking around with :confused3 looks on their faces.

For me, It gives me chills pulling up to the gate to check in. I'm sure after many more trips, that will go away but I'm still in awe of the entire place, too!

Frank-

What a great topic!

I actually got goose bumps reading some of the previous posts.

I agree with them all.

Dave- I, too, remember the joy by DD's got from those ponies. I used to go down to the barn with a wad of ones, and they would just ride and ride.

I loved it when we used to spread out a blanket at the movie, and lie there, under the stars, watching a Disney classic as a family. We used to all fit on one blanket, and the DD's used to like whatever movie was playing. Not so much anymore. But we all did watch Camp Rock there not too long ago- sitting on the benches this time.

I also love the feeling of the first bike or cart ride, after the campsite is set-up.

I love walking into Trail's End for the first time on each visit, and filling up my mug with whatever I feel like that day.

I love walking out of Trail's End, usually on the first night of our visit with a bag full of paper buckets containing a Giddyap and Go chicken dinner.

I love riding back from the MK after a 3 am EMH, usually as the only passengers on the boat, and arriving back at the Fort, where our cart is the only one waiting.

I love looping late at night, when everyone else is long asleep, and feeling like we have the whole place to ourselves. Sometimes, the DD's even would drive the cart (but let's keep that our little secret).

I love rising early- sometimes before dawn, and heading down to Crockett's Tavern, and being the only person on a rocking chair.

I could go on all day.

It is truly an awesome place.

TCD

Definately just hearing "Welcome home", I live for that. Set up camp and then go for a soda run, only at the Fort can we do that. Sitting in the rocking chairs, people watching, always a good time. Oh gosh, Frank, now you've done it. I WANT TO GO NOW!!!!!

One of my top awesome Fort moments (and I have many, many) is going down to the settlement and hearing that banjo-type music they play. In fact, anyime I go on this thread, talk about disney, read about disney, etc. banjo music is the first thing that pops into my head. I can hear it now.....:)

My 1st one would have to be how big the kids eyes goet the 1st time we arrived @ the Fort, also I love getting up early and walking the loops with my coffee checking out all the sites and seeing the Fort wake up.

Definitely driving up for the first time --Not only the kids on the edge of their seats but also the adults. 2nd most awesomeness was getting out site number and backing in.:yay::yay:

I do also have to say the bus ride was verrrrrrrry special. Oh, what the heck--it's all awesome.:cheer2:

I love the banjo music playing throughout the Fort. Now whenever I hear any type of banjo jingle I close my eyes for a second and feel "at home". Also, the sounds of the boat whistle in the early morning was always a great sound to wake up to!:cool1:

I'm gonna be looking for all 3 of you in September!

Now to answer Frank's question. It's hard to beat the unexplainable excitiment of pulling into the entrance of FW and knowing what fun there is to be had inside. (Something I hope to be experiencing in about 12 weeks!)

We've almost got enough Fiends to have a GG!

Ditto to all. I love coming to check in and feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulders. We have camped there for 30 years and 3 children, now 3 grandkids and all of their excitment every time we would get to the FT. We didn't camp for about 10 years and the only reason I wanted another MH was because of the the FT., come to think of it that is why we brought our 1st MH. I love checking out the trading posts, looping, sitting out in the am having coffee and around the campsite at night. Meeting great Fiends and having the fun that somehow the FT. seems to bring about.

Hearing the water parade music from our site in the 200 loop:lovestruc. Looping and checking out the sites all decked out for Christmas.
Now we won't be able to go back to the fort for a while with twins on the way but as soon as we are able to it will be the first place we go:cloud9:.

Our last Fort trip, we had a electrical problem with the camper (no fault of Disney), we couldnt get a repair man to come til the next morning,,the Fort was full with no sites available , they offered to put us inna cabin for the night, no charge.

Ya just gotta love them moments of Fort awesomeness !!pixiedust:

...one time Denise and I were walk'n along the lake at 300 loop canal, a excursion fishing guide ran his pontoon upon the shore and told us to hop on and took us fishing,,,FREE !! pixiedust:

That's FISH-TASTIC! :goodvibes

Well if you see 2 pale, giddy 40-something New Hampshire-ites' hands shoot up when you ask that question in November, that'll be us! :dance3:

You all have mention most of my Fort Awesomeness moments already...

"Welcome Home"

Driving through check in

The first margarita in our lounge chairs after we setup

Rocking chairs at Crockett's

Taking out chicken to eat on the beach

Wishes on the beach

Browsing at the trading posts

Spotting the first Armadillo and making up a silly name for him/her (last year was "Barry")

10th margarita in our lounge chairs

Taking the girls to the dog park the first morning (and every morning after)

Seeing how excited Brady gets when he knows we're going for a walk on the 300 dog walk

'ELECTRIC BOAT PARADE' - just the music starting does it for me!

Looping over and over and over and over in Nov/Dec and looking to see what new holiday decorations have gone up since the last night.

20th margarita in our lounge chairs.... oh wait.... I lost count....

You took the words right off my keyboard.:surfweb:

Watching all 5 kiddos ranging from 15 to 21 years old be reduced to 'tots' while looping to look at the Christmas decorations on our 1st trip to the Fort. That was Magical :wizard:!! And they can't wait to do it again; even the now 23 year old... Future Fort Fiends.

I love getting the folder after we check in and to see what fun exciting things thats going on while we drive towards our campsite!
Also we love to go to MK that first night and the boat ride over (The sun is usually setting by this time)...your first night heading over to MK on the boat ride with the sun setting....that Bay Lake breeze hitting you in the face...you see your kids sitting on the edge of the seat...with there little legs not able to touch the floor--just dangling...ahhh love it.:lovestruc
My 2 yr olds face when he first met Mickey Mouse for the first time...it was the most magical thing ever....absolutely adorable!!!:thumbsup2
Golf-cart looping is our ABSOLUTELY favorite thing to do in FW!!!
I really could go on and on....:rolleyes1

My first time to WDW was in July 1972. We did not stay at the Fort. It had recently opened and I had and Aunt & Uncle who worked for Disney. We left the MK by boat (of course) and went to FW. I only went as far as the Settlement Depot (under construction) & what I believe was the 100 loop. I was in awe. We returned a year later & stayed there. The grocery supply trucks used to come by the campsites where you could purchase food from them. I think they used to call them FOT's, I think that meant Funny Old Truck's or something like that.

I SO remember the cute little trucks. You could get everything off of them...it was so cool---anyone know what happened to them?

Our awesome moment is pulling into our campsite and taking that first step at the Fort. We love to set camp and sit back to take it all in!!

We'll be there in October! :goodvibes
