Fort Awesomeness

Not just awesome, It's Beyond awesome, It is BE-Awesome!" (Paraphrase from Rhino in Bolt)

I was walking with the kids to the trading post thinking how terrible camping was and I was never going to do it again. The toilet on the motorhome had the handle stick sometime in the evening and was discovered around midnight when we stepped into a swamp carpet! A 1 AM load of laundry in the comfort station, and shop vac-ing for a couple of hours doesn't put anyone in a great mood.

When we got to the trading post, the kids discovered the hopscotch and played and then made 2 friends around their ages. Seeing the kids holding hands running to the playground with kids they met just a few minutes ago reminded me why camping was worth it.

The first time the DDs took a pony ride - Snickers and Nemo.
When we received our folder and saw that we got the site we requested!
Seeing the same cast members and they remember you!
:rolleyes1 OK- so I went to the Meadows snack bar a lot to get refills and the same CMs happened to work at the Trails End counter...when I went to get refills...

Our Awesomeness happens when Mr. FFerret and I open the door and step into our cabin... And then the kids run us down trying to get to the much-covetted top bunk first :P Yep, we're home!

Not-so-much Awesomeness:
How much the murphy bed shrinks w/ each passing year. :rotfl:

Riding bikes to WL and having deer block the path while our grandchildren with bikes and hot wheels try to catch them :yay:

Awesomeness, it has to be the friendly, smart, good looking, generous, thoughtful, bus driver from NH who always asks if there are any Fiends on board. Ok, some of it is a stretch, especially the good looking part. But what the heck, it was worth a shot. Only a few of you have seen me.

One thing that I find awesome about the Fort is how it has generated such a big fan club for so long. It bothers me somewhat that Disney doesn't notice it. And even with all it's flaws, which are correctly pointed out here, it continues to do it, amazing. As might be expected, being an insider, I'm not affected by the Pixie dust as much as most of you, but I do understand it and do feel it when I'm there as well. Still a fan.

We are from NH and we plan on coming down in January, this will be our first time staying on property :cool1: We will look for you!

Y'all have hit most of what is on our list but here goes a couple others:

The wafting aroma of the food cooking at TE/PH as you travel along the walkway toward the Settlement with the banjo music playing from the ground speakers.

Watching DS and DW learning how to ride the Segways and the expressions on their faces after their trek.

The peacocks especially the beautiful white one. Wish they were still there.

Seeing DS and DW when they went out horseback riding.

Seeing DS turning back into kid again even though he tries so hard not to.

Something I've not thought much about til now is a Fort awesomeness for me is, once we've gott'n to our site and start sett'n up, we completely and absolutely, forget about the outside world.

It's like Walt is there and empties your mind of all thoughts not Disney related !

Now thats magic,,and it's AWESOME ! pixiedust:

Mine is showing up at checkin in my own motorhome for the first time in about 25 years.

I went every my parents until I was around 12. Then never had the opportunity to go again until last year.

I love this!

1. Getting close to the Fort after a long haul from Texas and seeing the WDW signs...then turning into the FW entrance.
2. Welcome home
3. FW Christmas Decorations and landscaping
4. Christmas music playing through out the fort and on the boats. Love the early boat rides and the late ones.
5. Golf Cart looping to look at Chrirstmas decorations in the evening. Visiting with fellow golfers.
6. People watching. It's the happiest place.
7. Decorating our RV for Christmas.
8. Watching our kids who will be 19 when we return in December. They love all that is WDW and the Fort....and being with us. Go figure.
9. Our travel family of 3 families who love all our travel experiences but WDW the best.
10. Last year we were in Red River, NM with our RV's...dreaming of WDW. Dreams do come true.
11. Drinking wine at the marina and watching the fireworks and electric light parade.

We've already had a Fort Awesomeness moment....and we're not even there yet!

The other day DH asked DS7 what was the main thing he was looking forward to at WDW this year and he said...

"Just being there....and even if I can't go into one park, I just wanna be at Fort Wilderness! We can watch the FW from the lake and even if we can't do that, we can listen to them from the campsite...and we can ride the golf cart...and we can roast marshamallows ...and we can see the movies......and....."

DH and I nearly melted into puddles! :cloud9: That's our boy! :thumbsup2

I'm assuming DS is just being hypothetical about not going to the park?

You've got a point. Once we're there, (after 8 1/2-9 hours driving) there's no way we'd NOT go to a park. Although, strange as it sounds, DS7 LOVES being with his family at the Fort and loopin' on the golf cart is one of his favorite activities. He even makes up his own songs about it. :thumbsup2

At the Fort it's just ALL awesome and magical!!!!!!

My DH and I agree with you 100%, that once you pull into FW you completely forget about the outside world. It feels like you finally arrived home.
I am glad we are not the only ones who think like this.

"Welcome Home!!!!"

After hearing those words, everything turns to magic. I don't care how long or hard the trip was or how much the kids fought, they still get that look of wide eyed excitement.

This summer, we decided to stay at Pop just to see what another resort was like. It was okay, but it is definitely not the Fort. I felt homesick the entire time.

I'd say that my most favorite Fort awesomeness was and is getting to meet fiends.
It doesn't matter if you meet them at the Fort or elsewhere, it's because of the Fort that we meet each other.
And I gotta say, I haven't been disappointed meet a fiend once. By the time you meet them, you know them so well from the Dis that it's like meet'n up with a long time friend.:goodvibes

Oh, and another Fort awesomeness,,,because of my Dis name, folk think I like to fish,(well DUH !!) , but there are some fiends who like to fish a much as I and probably more than I,,anyways, getting to fish with these guys at the Fort is just totally awesome!

There are a couple fiends I haven't meet up with yet, that I hope to get the opportunity to snag some swimmers with, at the Fort .

Frank I have to agree with you 100%, We have loved the FT for 30 years, but having found the Fort Fiends is something so special and it makes it that much better, and all because of the Dis Boards who would have thought that you could make such good friends over the internet!!!

And just so all will know, I have meet Lorna too. As we passed each other in buggies she yelled ,"Hi Frank ! I'm Lorna !!" :lmao:
Next trip around, hugs are in order, (I'm a hugger)
(I know, thats a strike against my "man-card")
