WE are arriving in 13 days and staying at ASMo. Things have changed from the last time I did something like this so I figured I should ask before I go. Our room is paid for and a card is linked to our reservation for charges. However, I have a Disney Rewards Visa and got my rewards card and we were blessed with a big cash gift to put towards our trip. I'd like to apply these towards our room charges. Can I do this in advance? If I make a payment towards the card I linked it'll be less interest so I feel like we'd be jipped. I supposed I could just bring/use cash while there.

I believe you can link your rewards card to your room, but you cannot give $$ in advance. We get discounted Disney GC's and then I stop in the lobby every 2-3 days and pay off our room charges with them, so nothing really ever hits our CC that they have on file. It only takes a few minutes and I also get a printout of all our charges that I go over for mistakes.

they run the credit card charges overnight the day you check out so be sure to go to the front desk to apply your rewards to your account. We usually go before we go to dinner.

I was thinking of gift cards but honestly we're only there for a long weekend I am afraid we'd end up with left over gift cards.

Gift cards work fine for us. We can save anywhere from 5%-8% on them. Just make sure that you pay it off the night before if you're using them.

As long as you go to the desk and pay the night before checkout you’re good. I do it with gift cards every trip because I get them discounted from BJs and stack them with cash back from my CCs.

Assuming you want to use the rewards you've earned toward the trip, you can either use them to pay for meals or merchandise at the parks or charge to your room and pay some of it off using the rewards at the desk. Why not let the rest of the charges go on your Disney Visa and then use the cash gift to pay off the card as soon as you get home? Then you can start earning more rewards for another trip!

I often buy the e-gift cards from target for 5% off with the red card. You can do it on the app and you get the card numbers just a few hours after you order. They sell various increments up to $500.

If you want to use your new Disney Rewards Visa for your room reservation you can call Disney and have them give you a credit on your old credit card and put the cost of the room reservation on your new card.

This method is exactly what we wish to do. Have you done this recently?

Is it possible to provide a credit card to keep on file, but pay off the bill with cash? As we visit from the UK every transaction costs quite a bit in foreign transaction fees so we bring cash or travellers cheques with us, but it would be great to just swipe our magic band instead when in the parks.

Yes, you can use your MagicBands to charge to the credit card on file. Just make sure to go to the front desk or concierge to pay off the balance with cash before they charge the credit card. I know that they charge the credit card the night before you check out, but you might want to make frequent payments to avoid additional charges. :)

So have they changed back to the old system? Last I heard they were charging off to the card every time you hit $100 and placing a new $100 hold that took 3-5 days to fall off.

That is what I was wondering. Or do the previous posters not hit that limit each day?
I can only comment on our experience. We charged basically our dining plan tips back to our two rooms for 4 days roughly-there was a $325 dollar balance. We had a credit card on file. We went to the desk after 4 days and asked to pay off our room charges. The front desk person scanned a band from each room and paid off our charges. I don't know if we had been charged and he refunded us or if we weren't charged at all and really were paying off the original charges. All I know is what our credit card was charged in the end was correct.

So when you checked you only saw one charge for $325? How long after checkout was that?

The $325 dollar amount we paid off with gift cards halfway through the trip. This amount didn't appear to ever be on our credit card statement. We had additional charges that we didn't have gift cards to cover. This appeared as one charge later. We didn't see any evidence of holds either, tbh we only look at the credit card statement when it comes in the mail, we don't track all the charges in real time.

OK, the holds would have dropped by the time you got the statement.

They never charged to the credit card every time you hit $100, they only put a hold on your card, which is different. If you are using a credit card, then the holds usually wouldn't affect you, unless you exceeded your credit limit. The people who really had to worry about the holds were the ones using a debit card, since that would lock up your available cash balance.
