I posted this on another thread and I know this isn't the correct place to ask, but I really need to know about this area. I have rented a private home there and I don't know what to expect. We are leaving on Sunday eve.

Can anyone help??

Thank you

I have stayed at Emerald Island, not far from there. The location is fantastic, we were at Disney in 12 mins. There are lots of places to eat nearby Ouback, chinese, Chillies etc and there are a few supermarkets too. To be honest you are not that far from the action. Have a great trip :)

BEAUTIFUL area. Not far from the action at all. We stayed in Acadia Estates in 2006--- right across the road from Formosa. We rented from All Star Vacation Homes. The houses are GORGEOUS. Our home was 7 master bedrooms- all with their own private bath- a game room- and a HUGE inground pool with hot tub and Lanai. Although I do prefer to stay on property... this is by far the next best thing.

From our pool area we could actually see the top of Expedition Everest, and a few fireworks now and then... possibly from Illuminations. My tip to you is to take the "back way" into the parks. Go out Formosa Gardens Blvd, make a right onto 192, and then a left at the next light... SHERBERTH RD. That is key. You end up cutting out a ton of traffic by not driving all the way up 192 to the main Disney entrance-- Sherberth takes you right in near Animal Kingdom. The drive from your house in Formosa to AK may only take 5-10min depending on traffic. You may want to take a peek at mapquest or local.live to get your bearings.

There are a ton of eating options, a Walgreen's, and a grocery store all withing about a 3 minute drive. Hope this helps. Have fun!!!

I'm going to move this over to our Orlando resorts and attractions board for you. I think you'll get better answers over there.

Here is a link to a map of the 192 area around the Formosa Gardens area.

It shows some of the businesses that you will see in that general area. It also shows the Formosa Gardens turnoff and you can click on a map of that area too. You will notice down a little and to the right of the Formosa Gardens turn off you will see the Sherbeth Road short cut to Disney. You will definitely want to take this short cut to save you time.

My dad rents a house in Formosa Gardens for 3 months every year and we LOVE the location! It is pretty close to everything and the houses are beautiful.

We stayed on Sunset Lakes and rented a Florida Leisure home. Really good area to stay but the big drawback was waiting to get in the Outback. It took 45 minutes.

There are other restaurants around but if you go at a busy time then the wait will be more. We now stay east of Disney and find that getting in restaurants is easier and that getting to other theme parks is quicker.

jaw737373, I don't know about the home itself, but you will love that area. I saw on your other post that you'll be in OIH. We've stayed in a few different devlopments in that area and love it. It's so close to everything especially if you take the Sherberth Road directions from the other thread.

In the shopping center where you'll turn off of 192 to get to the home, there's Carraba's, Cracker Barrel, Dairy Queen, Outback, and a ton more. IMO, don't waste your money at the Winn-Dixie there though. Either turn left and go up to Publix or take the extra few minutes to get to Walmart or Target for groceries. They have a better selection and much better prices.

We are planning our next vacation with my sister and her family and while we haven't decided on which development, I know we want to stay in that area. People have told us we can find a better deal or nicer home for the $ but the Formosa Gardens area is so easy to navigate and has so many options, we'll keep going back.

Have a great time!

Subcribing to this thread!
I have a rental booked at "Nearest-Disney" in Formosa Gardens.. :yay:
Looking forward to the replies here

We have stayed in a vacation home in this area three times and an upcoming 4th in October. It is just perfect, it is minutes from the park and area and all the homes are just beautiful. We used Alexander Flordia HOliday Homes each time and they were great. We always go to Wal-Mart on our first day in to buy our groceries and supplies, it's about 8 miles maybe. The Winn Dixie is close and we used it a couple times last trip for last minute items. One place we always stopped at was Walgreens at the intersection of 192 and Formosa Gardens.

It's a great area, most convenient for Disney with family restauarants and shopping nearby. Three attendant-gated resort communities in the area are Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms & Emerald Island. Communities without resort facilities include Acadia Estates which has large homes, and Formosa Gardens Estates with large lots.

We've stayed in Acadia Estates (which is right across the street from FG) in March 2007 & 2008.....very nice area and convenient to everything. There are plenty of restaurants, shopping, and a grocery store right down the street :thumbsup2. We rented through All Star Vacation Homes and had a great experience each time :). Of course there's nothing like staying on Disney property (IMO), but vacation homes are also awesome and have their own perks as well (i.e., private pool, multiple bedrooms, more space, etc). The houses are huge and offer LOTS of room for everyone.....plenty of space to spread out.......plus everyone gets their own bathroom . I think you chose a great location and will not be disappointed. Have a great trip :dance3:.

I am here right now. Our home is beautiful and we are having a better time at home than anyplace else. Thanks to all of you for your help. There are plenty of places to eat, and your directions to the parks worked out perfectly.

We LOVED this area - stayed at two different homes there. Hope to rent there on our next trip! Very convenient location.

We were at Windsor Palms in this area. Already looking at calendars to see when we can go back. Absolutely sold on the rental house :goodvibes Hope you are still having as much fun as we did.

Well we are home! I miss the one I just left. It was beautiful. I enjoyed the house more than the parks. I will never go any other way again.

Thanks for all of your maps and help. I used it all and it was perfect.

Glad you had a good time and that the house was nice. I posted to the other Formosa Gardens thread that you had. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1879925
Do you have a website for the home? I like to bookmark those that have good reviews for future use. Thanks. :)

I have done inside the parks BC, outside Vistana, and rental homes. I have found the best for our family is a rental home. It allows our family the privacy we all want and ned for our vacation.

Sounds like yours was a great one.

It has taken a couple of weeks for me to stop missing our vacation home .... nice to hear we're not alone in this. :grouphug:
