Does anyone know this area? I have rented a private home on Fomosa Blvd. I have no idea what to expect.

Thanks

What are you trying to find out? We stayed just west of there in Emerald Island and drove past the Formosa Gardens area frequently. DS' girlfriend actually stayed there a couple weeks before us. Both areas seemed very comparable.

We LOVED staying offsite in a house. The space for the price, and all the other amenities (full kitchen, private pool, gameroom in garage, free laundry!) for less than the price of a moderate at Disney just couldn't be beat. We didn't think the drive was bad at all and didn't have any trouble being at park opening, staying until around 1:30, coming back for lunch, a swim, a light dinner, and then heading back into the parks in the evening. Sometimes we drove back and forth to golf. Furthest point was the MK, which you need to allow at least 30 minutes to get to (including monorails, etc.). AK we could be at in 10 minutes.

192 has everything you could possibly need, and if you want to pay less for it, there's a Walmart about 5 miles away (off 27 if I recall correctly - a bit west anyways!). Traveling with 3 teens this time, I'd NEVER consider staying onsite again - especially at this time of year (and incidentally our last 5 trips were onsite). If I went in January with really short hours for a short trip that I needed to maximize my time with EMH's, maybe. Otherwise, no way!

If you click on my trip report link in my signature, the first page (post 9) has a review of our house and a lot of the pictures we took, just to give you an example. I think the houses are fairly similar between the two communities. Ours was a 4 bedroom. I'd be glad to answer any other questions you have!

Which subdivision are you in: Formosa Gardens Estates or Oak Island. Formosa Blvd runs into both. It is a nice quiet area. There's lots of subdivisions in this area. It's about half a mile from 192. There's a Red Lobster and Outback Steakhouse within 2 min. Lots of restaurants, hotels, souvenir shops within 5 min. There's a Publix about 5 min west on 192 and a SuperWalmart less than 10 min west on 192 then take exit for 27 north, Walmart is behind Burger King.
It takes only about 5 min to Animal Kingdom using Sherberth Rd.
This map shows you the subdivisions in that area:
http://www.orlando-maps.info/top_down_maps/formosa_gdns_sub_div.htm

You can also go to www.maps.google.com and put in Formosa Blvd 34747 The section of Formosa Blvd on the left of Sand Hill Rd is going into the Oak Island subdivision and on the right of Sand Hill Rd it's Formosa Gardens Estates.
If you have any specific questions just post them, someone will answer you.

Sherberth Rd? Is that off 192? I was thinking of driving there and then taking the buses to other parks. Is that ok to do?

I got a great deal on a beautiful 4 bedroom home with private pool and hot tub. 400.00 for 6 nights. I got lucky about 8 months ago when the owner had just purchased the home. I am really excited about it.

We stayed in Oak Island Cove earlier this year. Very nice "residential-type", non-gated area. Very quiet. And...very, very close to drive to Disney using Sherbeth Road. :thumbsup2

For Sherberth Rd: you can go up to the 192 intersection by Red Lobster and turn right onto 192 and then get over in the left hand lane and take the next left at the lights on to Sherberth Rd. This will take you into the Disney Animal Kingdom area. At the lights (about a mile) turn right and then follow the signs to the Disney parks. The first left will be for AK but if you're not going there just follow the signs.
Instead of going up to 192 you can come out of Oak Island on Formosa Blvd and turn left onto Formosa Gardens Blvd (Sand Hill Rd) and then at the intersection with Funie Steed turn right onto to Funie Steed and follow that to the intersection with Entry Point Rd ( It's a dirt road on that part, about a mile or so). Turn left on to Entry Point and that will take you up to 192. At the lights go straight through and Entry Point changes to Sherberth on the other side of the intersection. Sounds complicated but it's really easy once you do it. :thumbsup2
If you look on the google map using the info I gave before you can see Funie Steed, Entry Point and Sherberth ( to the right of where you're staying) and follow it toward Disney.
I wouldn't bother to park and take Disney transportation at all. You can use the Disney buses if you want but it's much easier and faster to just drive to the park you want. You only have to pay once for parking for the day but keep your parking stub in the window. If you hop to another park just show it and you don't have to pay again.
We've stayed in that area many times and really like it. You did get a good deal. Please post a review of the home when you get back. :)

sympatico is right on the money.

It is a great area where ever you stay it is close to the parks, eateries, grocers and packy. You can not go wrong staying in the area. There is something for every one.

? sympatico when are you down next? We will be down aug 2-25 if you happen to be in the area?

My best friend is leaving to stay there...TODAY! Their flight is in about 2 hours and they'll be renting a 3 bedroom for 2 weeks. She's a bit nervous about renting a house (this is their first trip to Disney, first time on a plane, etc.!) but I assured her that with 4 kids, they'd definitely come out ahead doing this and enjoy it a whole lot more!

I absolutely love this area. There are several subdivisions off Formosa Gardens. My favorite is Wyndham Palms (which is in the back). I've rented two different 6-bedroom homes back there. Both were exceptionally beautiful and priced well (we shared with two other families). The area has a host of restaurants, stores, gift shops, outlets, etc. Honestly, although its only 2 miles from the highway, the street gets pretty crowded (192) and during peak hours can move like molasses. Although I prefer staying onsite, if I do stay onsite it’s going to be off Formosa Gardens.

Thanks so much to all of you. This will make alot of decision making much easier.:dance3:

There was a link to a map on here earlier that showed 192 with the restaurants ect and now I can't find it. It was great. Does anyone know what happened to it??

It might be this one: http://www.kissimmee-us192.com/map/map2/kiss192map2.htm#2btm
Not everything is on there but it will give you an idea of what it's like. If you go to the top or bottom of the road and click on the "travel east or west" it will take you the next seciton of road.

Deb, may see you next Feb.
