My mother-in-law is driving me nuts. Whenever I talk to her about something in our Disney plan she always comes back to the fact that we are staying in a small room (POR Royal Room) and when they went they stayed in these really nice treehouses and why don't we just stay there. I am assuming she is referred to the Treehouse Villa's from sometime in the 80s or 90s. Noone can really remember when they actually went. I try explaining to her that those don't exist anymore and in their place cost about $750/night. So does anyone remember what it would've cost to stay in the Treehouse Villa's in the 80s? And when did they change over? I saw some pictures of them in the Things No Longer Seen at Disney thread but I can't remember what page. Anyone have pictures?

Thanks!

The Treehouse Villas still exist.. they're at Saratoga Springs, though the original ones were replaced with new structures in the early 2000's.

I know that they are alive and well. I just want to know the price difference between when they were first built and today. I also know that they had several revamps. Wasn't sure of pricing. My mother in law thinks the pricing stayed the same from when they went in the 80s to now.

My parents stayed there in the early 80's. Brought my brother and sister. I was in college at the time. I know they won't have any idea and both my parents are gone now. Even if they weren't my father didn't worry about things like that. He just booked where he wanted to stay at the time. Oh how I wish I could do it that way.

My Birnbaum Guidebook from 1996 lists the following rates- Bungalows are $215 (or $195 during off season), one bedroom townhouse are $305 (or $285), 2 bedroom town houses are $340 ( or $320), Treehouse villas are $375 (or $355), Fairway villas are $400 (or $375), and Grand Vista homes are $975 to $1,150 year round.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks :)

I stayed in the Treehouse Villas in early November 1986. The rack rate at the time was $160 per night (plus tax). We got the stockholder discount and we only paid $80 per night. My dad loved those Treehouses.

Perfect! My MIL isn't understanding that the price has risen so much to stay in the Treehouses. The woman has a phd so one would think she is pretty smart. But I guess she just doesn't understand Disney.

However, go back and price out what POR, then DxL, cost back then. All the resorts have gone up. Give your m-i-l the cost for a one bedroom treehouse villa now.....you can always look into renting DVC points to stay there. If you do, I would really recommend renting a car!!!

Could you suggest that she go on the website and price out the Treehouse Villas now? If she thinks the price is fine, let her book and pay for that. It's almost irrelevant what it cost way back when. The cost of Treehouse villas has far exceeded inflation ($180 in 1986 is $343 in 2015), but they are not physically the same as they were then.

We stayed in the Treehouse Villas in February 2014 with a family of 7 - the youngest being 15. We loved it. It was a little pricey but as we looked at our kids getting older and moving off on their own, we thought it may be one of the last opportunities for us to go all together to enjoy the magic, so we splurged. It was nice staying in one unit instead of having 2 to 3 different rooms somewhere else and we all loved the treehouse theme. It added to the experience. I can see where it's not for everyone though. That's what's great about Disney. They give you a wide variety of choices and price points so that you can choose what you can afford and what will make you happy.

Maybe she just feels you should just bite the bullet and pay the price whatever it is just because that is where she wants to stay.

haha. Nope. I just think that she is clueless. She has no interest in going to Disney. They aren't "be outside in the heat" kind of people. Would rather be in A/C all day. They don't mind going to Knoebels, which is a park in PA. But you still buy tickets to go on the rides and we typically only go for half a day and leave after lunch. That is enough being hot and outside for them.:upsidedow

Too funny. I know quite a few people like that. If she isn't joining you, then you should do what makes you and your family happy. DH and I are staying at POR (RR) ourselves when we go back in October because it's what we want to experience. Life is too short to worry about what other people think you should do to be happy. Enjoy your trip.

They are 3br and sleep 9. Because of the layout the 2 queens are in separate rooms. They have the space and capacity of the typical 2br villa.

IMO it's totally irelevant what it cost then. It's only important what it costs now, and that's easy enough for her to figure out.

Ah, so they aren't going?

Whenever I talk to her about something in our Disney plan

Stop talking to her about your Disney plans then. :) Many of us here never talk about our Disney trips to people who aren't going with us. Makes life easier.

No they aren't going...I don't think I could survive a trip with them. I have learned my lesson and don't talk about it anymore. This all happened back in Jan when we were first making reservations and I was super excited :) She just kept saying, "why don't you stay in those nice treehouses." When I said they were tool expensive for our budget she looked at me like I had 3 heads and said, "really, it wasn't that bad when we stayed there." Granted this was back in the 80s/90s. So I haven't brought it up to her since :)
