I only had a 4 day cruise before and we are booked for a 7 night WC. I am trying to understand, by reading some posts....there are two formal nights - 1 being a semi formal and one a formal? does that mean DH wears suits and I need a gown????or DH wears tux and I a gown??? or suit and dress or pant suit?????

EEK!

:sad2:

A nice dress & suit is fine. If you have a gown, you can definitely wear it but I wouldn't go out & buy one just for the cruise.

My DH wore a suit for formal night and a sports jacket for semi-formal night. I dressed in a cocktail dress for formal night and a nice skirt for semi-formal night. Some will be dressed to the nines, a few won't dress up at all. It's nothing to stress over as long as you look presentable.

Also, if you're planning on going to Palo, but don't want to dress up an extra night, make reservations for one of the formal nights.

How and when do you find out about your formal nights? Is it when you get your documents? Just curious. I'm a big planner.....

Thanks.

For formal and semi-formal night I wore the same suit....Dark navy....I just wore a different shirt and tie for each night

For formal night hubby wore a tux, I had a black gown. Hubby already owned the tux, so it wasn't a problem to pack. I got a great deal on the gown, on a clearance rack at Lord and Taylor.

Semi-formal night, hubby wore black suit with silk tee (we don't pack shirt/tie combos, uncomfortable and no fun), I had the typical little black dress for that evening.

If you have use for a tux, they have very nice ones at penneys now for $100..cheaper than renting, and then you have it. Another great place to get them, reasonably is mens wearhouse, if you have one near you. You can also have a rental delivered to the ship for your use, check with dcl for that process.

Dresses for you are easy, every major department store usually has a great clearance rack full of them.

I wore a tux on formal night and a suit and tie for semi-formal night. The Mrs. wore a long dress on formal and a church dress on semi.

My guess would be that about 30% of men were in tuxes.

Formal and semi-formal nights are usually a set night so you can ask any recent 7 day cruisers (different for east/west) which night was their formal and semi-formal nights. The whole ships celebrates those nights so it does not matter what dining room you are in.

We're on one of the special cruises (7-night with 2 stops at CC). How/when will we find out when formal and semi-formal nights are?
