Formal attire dinner?

First time cruiser wondering what formal attire dinner entails. Is it just a dress up night or is there something special at dinner?

On formal night, all of the MDRs serve the same themed meal. It differs between Magic/Wonder class and Dream/Fantasy class ships.

There are also additional back drops available for formal photos. There is usually a Captain's Reception with free cocktails and you can get your picture taken with the Captain and meet some of the officers.

I have a dinner scheduled at Palo, so no need to change then I guess since will still make reception.

On the Fantasy, our formal night was the second night and the MDRs were serving their regular rotational menu. This was the night with the Captain's reception. Night 6 was the semi-formal night. There was no reception before, but all the MDRs served the "Captain's Gala" menu.

Another first time cruiser. We're doing a 4 night on the Wonder in February. Hubby's 51st birthday is our second night. I was planning on this to be our Palo night. I am trying to google to see if this will coincide with formal night. It is probably too soon for much detail to be released. I love dressing up, so two dressy nights would not be a bad thing.
