I have been reading your posts on digital cameras and I also read your information page. Don't remember how I found that one! But anyway....I know very little about these and I like to get one soon. I was wondering if I gave you an idea of what I would use it for, if you could give some ideas of what to check out. I hope to go this weekend just to look.

I want to use it the same way I use my 35 mm camera.
I want zoom!!!!
My camera now is auto everything. I just zoom in and shoot. It has different setting for action, portrait, etc. It's a canon sure shot.
I would like to stay at $400 and under.
I will be using it for everyday pics, sport pics of my DD and of course vacations to WDW.;)
I would like to have a usb port, I think. I have those right on the front of my computer. So I'm thinking that would be easy.

Oh...one more question...Do you need a special cd to put pics on to take them to the store to get 4x6 reg. photos? I have a CD-RW and the cd's we burn music on. I didn't know if those would work for that or not.

Sorry so long...I am very new to this. Trying to learn fast!!
Thanks for your help!!;) :D

Now there is an endorsement of the Old Evil Emperor's Opus if I ever saw one! "I read it, I forgot where it was and I didn’t learn anything from it" - ROFLOL

Just having some laughs at my own expense here don't feel bad you have come to the right Evil Emperor.

The page is on Deb’s http://wdwig.com/digital.htm

So you like zoom, want to stay around 400 bucks, want usb. Not a f-stop setter but you know about program settings.

I like zoom to - Like to get in close to faces.

Look at these:

Olympus 730 10x zoom

Olympus 720 8x zoom no movie
http://dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=359

Fiji FinePix 3800 6x zoom liited movie mode.

HP Photosmart 850 8x zoom

The fuji is a the least money I think and is a nice little camera with the short coming of no video out so you can't plug it into the TV an look at pictures on the TV. Never used thsi one but we have a few of the earlier 2 megapixel verion of this camera at work and I like them. Point Shoot lots of zoom. Your humble Emperor picked recomended them there. (Humble emperor now there is a new idea)

The Olympus cameras have more user controls and video out. The Emperor himself uses an Olympus C700, the two megapixel predicessor to the two cameras above.

So with the company's money I go cheap with less control with mine I pay up for the video out and all kinds of setting options I hardly ever use.

Read over the reviews that link off the links above. Look over my epic thesis again - next time there will be a test - choosing a camera - and it will involve your money so read more carefully!

Save some bucks for more memory and good rechargable batteries.

LOL

Cannon makes some great cameras too but not big zooms, and rereading your post you may not be a s big a zoom fan as Zurg I ddon't think the sureshots are more than 3x.

Anyway Canon make great digital cameras too. 3x lenses on most of them.

The S30, S40, S45 are nice cameras. The latter two are more bucks than I think you are looking to spend. I don't like proprietary batteries but other than that these are very nice. I think the s30 / s40 have been on the market a while and the price may be falling.

I have the Olympus C-720 and it does movies, just no sound with them!

TC:cool:

WOW Zurg...you are AWESOME!!!:teeth: Thanks for all the info and the link to your page again. Sorry I didn't mean for it come out like that! ;) I really did learn new information from your page....it's just that your taking to someone who is technologically challenged to say the least!!! ;)

Oh, boy the way I bookmarked your page...so I'll be ready for the test!!;)

Thanks again!!

Not to worry Wendy the Empeor was kidding you, being all knowing I understood what you meant. :) Just couldn't let the chance at a little humor pass.

Now in the full blow cool catagory is this little minolta.

Opps thanks for the correction Tuff. I think I knew that but sure didn't write it. My BIL has one of them too and loves it.

For all you looking here is a table of just about all the camreas in production:

People wonder about Nikons. the better one are great, I not a fan of the low end ones without a view finder that ony use a sceeen. The have boat loads of controls & features and the price reflects the quality. Most folks don't know or want all the ability the Nikons offer.

If anyone wins the lottery the Emperor would love one of these:

or a full blown SLR like TheLionKing's. Now that is a camera! But it cost more inline with a car.

I have an Olympus 3040 which I'm in love with. Since I bought it, it's come down in price. Consumer Reports rated it as the best 3 mp digital camera last year.
