I don't want to travel with a mask, social distancing, reservations for pool time(!), forced Disney excursions, or pretty much any of the things I read in the restrictions/guidelines for the UK summer sailings. If it takes 5 years for that to happen, so be it.

no masks on the pool deck (how ridiculous!)
vaccines for 18+ (no experimental vaccines on my son!)
Social distancing (I'll take social distancing ANY DAY regardless of pandemics!)

For me, I would prefer fully vaccinated ships (adults for now) with limited other precautions. For now, I would be fine with masks indoors in crowded situations, such as the theaters. But much more than that is a deal breaker for me. Especially limited shows, reserving spots on the pool deck, limited time for kids in the clubs (though my youngest only has a little over a year before she ages out). At some point, it just doesn't feel like vacation anymore and is a constant reminder of the pandemic. There are also great alternative vacations calling my name that don't require this level of precautions - we have taken a few and had an excellent time.

It seems Disney is taking things further than other lines that have been cruising for months with few problems. And I do feel some measures are a bit of theater - plexiglass buriers, masks outside on a ship that is moving and has constant clean air passing by spaced passengers. There is even growing evidence now that in indoor spaces, it makes no difference if you are a few feet from someone or sixty feet, bringing into question spaced, and therefore limited, entertainment.

I can't say I blame them, even if I would feel sufficiently safe sailing on a vaccinated ship with very light precautions. I'm not an expert and Disney is listening to experts and playing it as safe as possible. Even if all of it is warranted, I simply love DCL too much to alter the experience so heavily as to detract from it. And while I am normally not all that bothered by masks, I can't imagine enjoying myself by the pool, in the sun, with a mask on my face. Or planning my day via reservations on what used to be the most relaxing form of vacationing possible. I would rather wait, even if a couple of years, and enjoy sailing like we used to do it (hopefully self-serve buffets are gone for good).

In short, my objection to cruising with all these restrictions isn't because I think they are a bad idea, but simply for selfish reasons.

I am finding the early results of the poll interesting. Despite all the squawking about vaccine requirements on this board recently, early voters don't seem put off by it. Obviously this is a very small sample size of a group that has a vested interest in cruising, so I wouldn't attempt to extrapolate it to the general population, but it's still interesting.

OP here...I have to say. I am surprised as well. I would have guessed that there were more people against a vaccine requirement. But that's exactly why I did the poll.

As of the time of this comment, 71% of the respondents prefer some level of vaccination required.

As expected, masks are more controversial. Only 33% want options where masking is required everywhere.

About 54% chose an option that required Social Distancing.

In my "way too early" and imperfect analysis of the data so far, seems that a majority of the responses so far care more about onboard experience than vaccination requirements. I get the feel that more people want no masks (or at least no masks outdoors), and are OK with some social distancing but really don't want to be limited on shows, kids club, or pool times, etc. About half are willing to put up with Social Distancing (and I infer from that they would have to be OK with somewhat limited use of spaces like shows and pools to accommodate that distancing) but more people prefer to have vaccines so that the "standard" onboard experience is preserved as much as possible.

I'll keep monitoring to see how these numbers change over time. Perhaps down the road I will do another poll to compare how much people are or are not willing to do masks to allow unrestricted access to kids clubs, shows, etc. My gut tells me that if the choice was wear a mask, or limit the shows & kids clubs, people would prefer masks rather than limited access to stuff...but that is the subject of another poll!

Thanks to everyone who responded so far!

So I think that is where I struggled how to answer this poll, because I totally disagree that a yes answer on social distancing means agreeing to the kind of limits DCL has chosen to impose.

At the parks, disney made the choice to cap attendance in order to enable social distancing (eg every other row in the theater, one part per ride vehicle) without having to require reservations/virtual queues for shows, rides etc. I much prefer that approach—we can still have access to everything and be flexible with how we spend our day because they limited park capacity (first at 20% then 35%).

If they limit ship capacity similarly, even if they have to charge more, there is no reason why they have to make kids clubs limited to a couple hours with reservations or show only one show for the entire cruise. I’d be willing to pay more if they sailed with an emptier ship. I was surprised they were selling all stateroom categories—would have expected them to limit to verandah to have fewer guests while still maximizing profitability. Instead they want to sail with a higher capacity but then limit how many of those guests can enjoy the activities they paid for, and that feels wrong to me.

Hoping Pfizer gets approval this week for 12-15 yr old's so our family will be completely vaccinated. I'm fine with still wearing masks and social distancing but the deal breaker for us would be DCL excursions only as we always book our own. We are booked on the EBTA next May so will be interesting to see what the requirement are in Portugal and Spain for our port stops as I see them being more restrictive.

I completely agree with everything you said. (Except that as a claustrophobe I am VERY bothered by masks. I understand the importance of them indoors, but structure my life to avoid situations where they are required.)

I don't want to take a vacation where NECESSARY safety measures really impede on my enjoyment of the trip, especially at the price of a Disney cruise.

I am also lucky. We are an outdoorsy family and live in a major vacation destination. Our big summer vacation will be a week long white water rafting trip. I know that not everyone wants to sleep in a tent for their vacation, but we will be having a great time, will be taken care of, and most importantly, will be in a safe environment.

We were on the Dream March 6-9, 2020 and I would honestly be comfortable with the measures that they had in place at that time. There was an RN with a digital scanner taking your temp as you boarded, there were hand sanitizing stations everywhere as well as CMs passing out disinfectant wipes or more sanitizer (especially as you entered the dining rooms and Cabanas). The buffets were still self serve but the ice cream station was not (this was a good thing as the attendant slowed down my Son and he could only consume 12 ice cream cones LOL).

I wouldn't mind social distancing and/or masks, but masks only for the interior and not outside or on Castaway Cay.
I was on this cruise. I felt completely safe. We were told there were about 400 people who had cancelled last minute, and even that little bit helped with distancing IMO, especially in the dining rooms and theater. It was nice!

Wow...I didn't know that about the cancellations! We did see someone rebook for the March 9th cruise and got their original room in concierge for a fraction of the original price because there had been so many cancellations for the March 9th cruise.

Overall it was a good cruise...except for the weather. The wind really had the boat rocking especially on the trip back from Castaway Cay!

My requirements for cruising:

1. A guarantee that we won't be left stranded at a foreign port because someone has a high temperature or tests positive (we're vaccinated, but you never know, especially since the tests aren't extremely reliable).

2. No masks required outdoors onboard, or anywhere at all on Castaway Cay.

We technically have a cruise from San Diego in October, but the chance of that sailing is virtually non-existent. Our next booked cruise would be May 2022. By that time I expect (hope) that almost all social distancing and mask requirements will be gone. I also expect that vaccines will still be required, perhaps within 6 months (i.e. a booster shot would be required). But, if the October sailing were to happen I would want vaccinations for all those approved to get them. That is, by that time I expect EUAs will be extended to 12+. I wouldn't expect small children to be vaccinated. Those things being true, I would hope that mask restrictions would generally be lifted.

You guys they already posted the new updated safety measures on their website. No need to keep speculating about it :P

Looks like masks WILL be required outdoors while on deck, but you can take them off for pictures, while eating and while swimming..

Is this just for the UK sailings or everything? (Maybe it will modified as we move through the summer)

How did that happen? You don't get your deposit back if you book concierge?

I don't care about wearing a mask or requiring vaccines. I'm fine with both. It's all about the Oceaneer Club & Lab restrictions for me.

Same for me. Also, I want to take independent excursions. (I know I've said this a million times, but I could see DCL holding onto this one longer than is necessary using safety as an excuse when the real reason is revenue).
