Just curious...exactly how dangerous are these lead wicks in them. I have recently become attached to Yankee Candles and people continually warn me about the lead wicks. :( Should I not be burning them and if not, where can I find a candle with a safe wick? Thanks!

Dan...Gosh, you are a wealth of information. Whenever I have a question you seem to always have the answer. Thank you!

On the other hand, I am now confused. According to Dan's links, it appears Yankee Candles do not have lead wicks. Why then are people telling me that I should not be burning them and that I should only burn candles with soy wicks. I'm such a novice with candles. Someone please give me the ins and outs to candle burning.

This is from YCs website:

Q: Does Yankee Candle Company use lead wicks?
A: There has been a good deal of recent coverage in the media regarding possible health issues relating to candles containing lead wicks, some of which has unfortunately been confusing or misleading. In order to eliminate any concern or confusion on the part of our guests and consumers in general, THE YANKEE CANDLE COMPANY WOULD LIKE TO ASSURE YOU THAT YANKEE CANDLE DOES NOT USE LEAD WICKS IN ANY OF OUR CANDLE PRODUCTS. Moreover, the National Candle Association, of which Yankee Candle is a long-standing member, strongly supports the Consumer Products Safety Commission's recent work toward banning the use of leaded wicks. All of our products are today manufactured with pure cotton wicks that are free from lead and completely safe. At Yankee Candle we care deeply about the health and well-being of our guests and customers. After all, many of them are our own families, friends and loved ones. We are therefore firmly committed to producing high quality candle products that can be enjoyed and enjoyed safely. This has been our mission for over 30 years and we will continue to strive to offer the very best candles available.

I'm a Yankee girl myself! ::yes::

Yankee Candle originated in the next town over from where I grew up. I've always been a fan.

Last month, when we went to visit my mother, we went to the flagship store in South Deerfield. I learned that the original owner had cashed out, but I didn't learn who owns it now. We bought two of the large jar candles, a lavendar and a sage & citrus. The scent is much less potent than any Yankee Candle I have ever owned. With my older ones, you can smell them throughout the house as soon as you open them. With these new ones, I can barely smell them in the room in which I am burning them. Anyone else have a similar experience? Naturally, my first thought is that they've been taken over by a heartless corporation that is cutting quality to reduce costs.

Thank you!:D

I usually hang out on the cruise line forum. For me, this picture sums up everything great about our Disney cruise.

Yes! That's what I'm used to. These two I just bought are very weak. Perhaps I should send a letter.

I recently had a similar experience with a Clean Cottom large jar candle I bought. I couldn't smell it if I was standing next to it! Eventually as I burned it more, the scent became stronger, but it's not nearly as strong as some of my other YC scents.

I just got a large Pumpkin Pie and that one smells wonderfully, and you can smell it throughout the house.

Maybe some batches are stronger than others?

After my last post, I sent an email to Yankee Candle Customer Service, explaining the situation. I received a reply almost immediately, apologizing, and telling me I could bring them to the nearest Yankee Candle store for replacement or I could mail them back to the factory for replacement. That's customer service! Hopefully, the replacements will be better.

Moinab~ Yea! Glad Yankee Candle came through for you!! I have heard really great things about the customer service!!!!

Wowwwy~ I just LOVE your picture in your signature!!!! I am in the travel business and that picture just made my day!!! :)
