If you are on birth control pills (I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen) are you supposed to have ovulation pain? I thought when you're on the pill you don't ovulate, or am I mistaken?

It's possible that you are not on a high enough dosage of estrogen. As I remember Ortho Try cyclin is a low estrogen pill. You still may have may have a bit of mesersmerch. (Sp) as we do tend to some times release more than one egg. Which is why BC pills aren't always 100% effective.

They've never really proven that birth control pills totally stop all ovulation. You could still be ovulating.

I was on Ortho Novum 135 for 7 years before going off to try to get pregnant and I never felt ovulation pain. I ALWAYS feel ovulation before and after being on the pill. I'd take extra precautions and talk to the doctor just in case!

That's what I'm worried about. I always felt this pain before I was on the pill. Since I started taking the pill I've NEVER had ovulation pain.

Every month when you release an egg about 1/2 through your cycle, you may or may not feel the pain from the egg being released. It can be intense pain or mild--but it is pain. Makes getting pregnant much easier when you know when to try.

Is the pain like a dull ache in the lower pelvis, maybe even in the lower back/kidney area? And yes Ortho Tri is a lower dose estrogen, which I prefer because the side effect are less or mild. Nausea, etc.

I've never had it hurt in my low back or kidney area. More below belly bottom to one side. It is usually a pretty intense type of pain. I wouldn't call it dull & it usually only last hours. Always worse than a monthly cramp type of pain (which I rarely have though)

Did you take any medication this month? Some antibiotics can cause the pill not to work. I remember feeling ovulation pain while on the pill and being freaked out and then realizing I had had a sinus infection and taken meds. So glad I realized before I got pg, lol!! Be extra careful and talk to your Dr.

SSSSSHHHH.....no! I'm going to pretend you didn't tell me that! I only recently found out it is only 93% effective, I always thought it was 97!

It depends on the specific pill you are on. Some do allow ovulation, but make the lining too thick for the implantation. So technically you are pg (the sperm and egg have met) but your body allows it to pass (sort of naturally aborted). I know several moms that choose not to use this kind of birth control for this reason.
