for a friends upcoming birthday I would like to hang a white sheet on the wall and connect her computer(pictures) up to a projector. I dont have any idea what kind of projector to look for and is it something that a rental place would have? Thanks

As far as hooking it up to a computer, that won't be any problem at all. The projector should have a vga cord that connects the computer to the projector. As far as renting, I don't know. Definitely call and inquire. Good luck.

Call around before you rent one. We have two at work and I know about 5 other people who can borrow one from their office for the weekend. If you know anyone who DJs or does sales/training presentations they are the first people to ask. If you work and know the I.T. guys they may have one. There are some employees I would trust enough to loan one of ours to for a weekend.

Anything purchased in the last 5 years or so will be a DLP projector. All you really need to make sure of is that the laptop your are using has the same kind of cord as the projector. Most computers and projectors will have a VGA (or DSUB) connector on them. That is all you need. Some higher end multimedia laptops like Sony may also have an S-Video connection. Newer projectors and high end gaming laptops may also have DVI connectors.

As long as the connector on the computer matches one of the projector inputs you are fine. The only possible exception is a netbook or a MAC. Some of them have proprietary video ports that require a specific adapter.
