Would you be upset if your neighbor's children were outside playing in the morning before school (8:00am)? It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes we are ready early and I send them out to play basketball or something until the bus comes. I must say that my children aren't the most quiet children in the world and I can hear them clearly from inside my house.

Most of the neighbors have kids so I know they're up. There's just one older couple who I worry about. The husband's gone to work but the wife is home. I know that she doesn't really love children to begin with (all the kids KNOW not to go on their lawn) and I was just wondering if I should keep them in or should she expect it living in a family neighborhood. I could ask her, I suppose, but I'm just looking for opinions here first.

While I'm asking, how about weekend mornings or during the summer when windows may be open?

in my area.......I do not let the day care kids go out in the backyard until I am sure ....so about nine am .......I have a huge backyard that is fenced in......

Nope, I wouldn't. Just keep them 50ft away from my car.

:teeth:

Yeah that would be pretty annoying to me if I were trying to have a bit of a sleep-in. But during the week most people are already up getting ready for work at that time, so it probably wouldn't be an issue.

On weekends that's definitely too early. I wouldn't want to hear that until 10am at the earliest.....

It wouldn't bother me, but I am usually long gone by 8 am. On the weekend, I think 9 am is a good rule for any loud noise. Truthfully though, noises in the morning don't seem to bug me as much as noise after 10 PM. I'm not asleep by then usually, but I am usually trying to get there! :teeth:

I don't mind the noise of children but the sounds of the lawn mowers and leaf blowers at 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays makes me crazy!!!!

I should note that I have a child and the leaf blowing/lawn mowing sounds come from my neighbors who don't have children...which always makes me wonder why they are up and out so early on the weekend! :)

If it were our neighbor, it would bother us. But we're different. Chris works from 10-6, so he sleeps until 9am. Also, he is often up late handling calls and network changes at 3am. So early morning noise would probably bother him enormously. But as I said, we're in a unique position.

Luckily, we don't have this problem in our neighborhood. We live in the back of the subdivision and the bus doesn't come that close to our house. Also, most of our neighbors don't have school-aged kids.

I HAVE kids, and I find our neighbors kids annoying.

They are out at about 7 am practicing tennis against a plywood board. I hear thwap, thwap, thwap, thwap. Oh well, I need to be out of bed anyway, and I am glad they are out doing that instead of something destructive. If I wanted to live in a quiet neighborhood, I wouldn't have chosen this one.

I alway hear people out at ungodly hours doing something. Some guy was training his dog at 2 am the other day. I kept hearing him shout "come", "heal", "sit" etc. My neighborhood is really echo-ey.

But, it really isn't a big deal. I think 8 am is an appropriate time to be up and around.

5 am would be a different story:crazy:

Yes it would. I'm a light sleeper that goes to bed late and I don't wake up until 9 during the week and 10-11 on weekends.

I don't have my dogs outside early or late so the neighbors aren't disturbed by their barking and I appreciate the same in return.

I would find the noise from a basketball on the pavement more annoying than the noise from children playing. I think that it might be a good idea to consider an activity that's a bit quieter, but I wouldn't worry about it beyond that.

kids playing and BOUNCING the basketball---NO,that's not ok. Unless of course you're ok with my dogs out barking on weekend mornings.

In general, I'd say that would be fine.

If I specifically had trouble with kids being too noisy, I might call and ask that you ask the kids to play in another area (like in the back yard instead of in the side-lawn next to my bedroom window) until a certain time of morning.

But, I like kids. :)

I'm with some of the other posters who have said playing outside is ok....just maybe not basketball (refer to thwap-thwap-thwap of FreshTressa's post). We have some kids in our neighborhood, and the only thing that bothers me is when they are working on their batting practice and hitting the balls towards MY HOUSE! I've thought about letting my DH practice his golf swing towards their house! ;)

mmm, not so much but point taken. So, outside is okay but basketballs should wait until later seems to be the general feeling. Consider it done. Thanks for your opinions.

No I wouldn't mind the sound of children playing. Gee there are a lot worse noises you should be worried about than children playing.

But hey I work with 34 2-5 year old children each day so children's noise doesn't bother me.

If you live in a neighborhood where most of the families have kids, they should expext a little noise from them. Our home is fairly well insulated against noise, we have a neighbor with a loud dog, we have no kids, and when I am coming home from work in the afternoon, I have to be caustious because the kids play across my yard (I am surrounded) I like to see them, and am slow moving to get in the garage. If it get dark, I even turn the light on for them. The community basketballnet is kind of close to our house, but we really don't hear it.

My advice, if you see her, ask her if the kids are making too much noise in the morning, and if she looks upset, have the kids take her over a plate of TollHouse cookies and ask her forgivelness. Have them tell her that they will try to play more quietly...See if they can melt her heart.....

:bounce:

Thank You for considering your neighbors feelings. :)
Please be aware though, not everyone has 9-5 jobs so to speak. For the last 10 years I've had a terrible time sleeping because I've worked evenings. My sleep is constantly disturbed because my neighbors love to have loud chats outside. I also love the woman who has to play loud dance music at 8am while she works out. NOT  The smacking sounds of a basketball would make it really hard to sleep. Earplugs don't cut out the noise either. The worst thing is in the summer when I have to leave my windows open, because I don't have AC.
I try to be really quiet at night when I get home so as not to disturb my neighbors while they are sleeping. I wish they would be as considerate.

I would never say anything to the parents personally but yes that would really bother me and my husband. He works 4pm-2am and I am on his hours so that we can spend some time together so we sleep late. Now the weekend is different we like to try and get up early then so we don't feel like we are wasting the day.

Now all the late-nighters reply :teeth:
I would be peeved if any sort of noise woke me up. I rarely have to be at work before 11:00 a.m., so I rarely wake up before 10:00 a.m. Of course, that means my dogs are running around outside at 10:00 p.m. after I get home, and now and then they will start barking, so I can forgive some noise now and then. If it happened consistently, I'd have a problem. Then again, the houses here are very close, and I still can't see me waking up from kids playing next door.

I have one child, but I can remember when I was a kid and going outside as early as 7 a.m. on a Saturday. But I had to play quietly and not make any noise!! I think anything involving a ball should wait until 9 a.m.! LOL!
