When I was a senior back in the 80s, the girls did drapes or a solid color long-sleeved shirt and the boys wore suits or a tux. We had to go to a designated studio.
Now that my DD is in high school and I saw her first HS yearbook in May, I see that the senior pictures are just like all of the regular pictures, taken at school on picture day. No special outfits or anything! I was shocked!
What many kids end up doing, is using an outside photographer to take their senior pics to the tune of $700 to $1500 depending on the package they order. It costs $300 just to have this one well-known photographer do an outdoor photo shoot, but sometimes he has 1/2 off specials. These expensive pictures don't even end up in the yearbook though! The students put them in their graduation announcements and give them out to friends.
