For those with 500 points and up

I have a little over 500 for now, but getting rid of a small contract soon. My first purchase was in 2021. I acquired a lot of points last year.

I can say that in my subjective opinion, I've already gotten my money's worth. Money isn't worth anything if you don't spend it.

My big splurge is coming up in March. Just my husband and myself will be in a Copper Creek Cabin. I'm still battling internal demons that are lying to me and telling me that I need to be a point miser. I absolutely don't need to be a point miser and I'm working on letting myself book what I want vs what I think is reasonable.

I don't really intend to sell, but I'm letting go of a contract that I'm not getting a lot of use from. I absolutely can use those points on the regular, but I don't need to and I bought some very expensive, very useful contracts last year and I would rather have the money to pay on the other purchases. I'm not opposed to buying more direct sometime.

I haven't needed to rent. I'm driving distance to the California resorts and luckily they use a lot of points. So, I can pretty much use my points eventually. I'm also considering the Sorcerer Pass and maybe some other trades via MS.

How long have you owned your points?
Since 2018

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Absolutely. It has allowed us to do several extended family trips, and several big friends trips, and splurge on accommodations we otherwise could never afford (nor would have spent the cash price on, even with discounts).

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
We've done Thanksgiving three times now with my DH's family -- getting a Grand Villa (AKL Jambo first year, CCV Cascade Cabin second time, and PVB Bungalow this past time) and several studios. The Grand Villa was where we stayed and was the central hang out spot, where we all cooked Thanksgiving dinner and ate it together. The studios were so folks had their own sleeping spaces and we weren't all crammed in together.

Though I might say the truly biggest "splurge" was getting a Bungalow for 3 nights when it was just my husband and I for the Flower & Garden Festival. It was also the first time we had ever been in Disney for my birthday, so it was also to spoil me a little, and rates in early May were at least a little better -- certainly better than Thanksgiving week!

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
I expect that once we retire, we might downgrade -- but that likely means giving some to our children if they want them, and only selling if they don't. Otherwise, we hope to make use of the contracts to escape the New England winter for a few weeks during retirement.

We have swapped out contracts, though. We used to own more points at BRV, and we used to own at Saratoga Springs and Hilton Head. We've sold all those, but bought into VGC, PVB and more AKV points. When Lakeshore Lodge opens, I will likely sell some contracts to buy into there.

Have you ever rented your points?
Yes. First time honestly was during Covid, when resorts reopened and before Disney announced it would allow points to bank twice. We weren't comfortable going to Disney, so we rented points to those who were. And then we used that to buy more points, lol.
We also have made some friends of some of those renters, who do still rent from us from time to time, and some of our friends/family rent points to use for their own trips, as they cannot afford the outlay cost of buying into Disney and this way they cover the dues cost (and taxes) of points we aren't using.

We bought in 2013 when VGF was released

A million times over. We just came back from a BWI stay for our DS's wedding. We had to stay on the cash side since the wedding was planned in just a few months and the rooms were all booked at BWV. It reinforced for us yet again that we need 1 bdrms or bigger and that DVC was the right choice for us. At one point we stood in the room staring at the wall trying to figure out where the microwave was. Apparently cash side you have to request them.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
Ours was a 2bd at Jambo House right before the hotel side reopened. We just added on to our CCV points to move to a 2bdrm every other year at Thanksgiving. We love longer trips so I will always be somewhat of a point miser.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
Nope, our DS has some of his own but would be happy to take more of ours and our DD is absolutely against the points being sold and is trying to talk us into more points pretty regularly.

Have you ever rented your points?
Never, my kids would take them before we ever got to renting.

We started with a 200 pt resale in 2023. Last week we crossed the comma line with 1,045 pts with 150 pts at ccv (combined with ccv resale for 500 there).

Best splurge? I am writing this from the balcony of our Grand Villa at Copper Creek. We brought both sides of grandparents to treat them to a great experience and a free room.

Went to Aulani on pts this spring. Hadn't been to Hawaii in 12 years but went because the room was already covered in the budget thanks to points. Highly doubt we would have gone otherwise.

Maybe we'll burn out of this after ten years, who knows, but for now I'm fully enjoying it.

Rented a few points the first year because our bcv contract came double loaded and we couldn't use them all in time. Helped offset the buy in.

Initial purchase June 2023, 300 points (150-150) VGF. That was followed very closely by another 150 points during the VGF fire sale, thanks to this board. Since then multiple purchases at Riviera and VGC have brought me up to my current total of 950. I never stop thinking about adding on.
Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
100%. Absolutely love going. It doesn't get old for me. I have met lots of great people on every trip, and I'm an introvert!
What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
Nothing super extravagant. A couple of times I've booked a 2BR plus a studio at VGF for large family trips, which were awesome. I tend to take many smaller trips per year rather than fewer larger trips. I just recently stayed solo in a RIV tower studio, and loved it. Those rooms are perfect for one.
Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
I can't imagine selling at this point. Maybe when I get super old and if my kids don't want the contracts, I'll sell.
Have you ever rented your points?
No. I think I'd do a super splurge like CCV cabin before I'd consider renting.

We currently have over 500 and are about to add some more but I haven't really ever considered an exit strategy or renting them because we go so often. I know things change but after going to Disney for the last 10 years on average 6-10 times a year I am comfortable believing more points isn't a bad thing in my case but the next move up will put my MF's in the range of major expense for me.
1. 10 months
2. Hell yes, my month long trip in September would have cost over $30,000 in rooms alone without dvc
3. Probably around 1600 points to stay in 1 and 2 bedrooms that long. Its wonderful buying a contract and it has 3 years worth of points 😅
4. No I hope I never have to sell. Even renting them at the lower end that the rental stores offer still puts you ahead of dues so I dont know why id ever do that
5. Yes but then we bought a California contract and are using thise points to hold us over 🤣 We are local to california and with family and personal issues going on we feel more comfortable doing short local trips this year

If you pay the mf monthly its not so bad as long as you can afford it and can still go comfortably.

Having the freedom to book one bedrooms means knowing you have a much greater chance at staying anywhere you want year after year which is really being part of a vacation club.

If you have too many points one year theres options. Treat yourself to a longer vacation, better rooms with friends and family, sorcerer passes with points or sell them and get some $$$.

Thats what makes me so comfortable with this many points, I was able to sell mine in literally 3 minutes when the need arose.

Also you can diversify into different home resorts the more points you have and get multiple home resort priorities! 🥳 🎉 🎊

You, an introvert, no way, cant see it!

Finally a thread for the rest of us. The "1,000 Point Club" thread was too gated for me 😅

We own at both Aulani (resale since just last year, 2025) and Riviera (direct since 2023). We've stayed at a few different resorts using our Riviera direct points (Hilton Head, Boulder Ridge, Grand Floridian), but after staying at some of the other resorts, we realize we mostly want to stay at Aulani and Riviera every trip, and we want to go to both of them every year if we can. So we haven't ended up renting any of our points out (though I did create an account with one of the major brokers, not sure if I'm allowed to say their name here, even though I think they are one of the sponsors?). Not only have we not rented out our points, we tend to buy transfer points and one-time-use points to ensure we get an extra night or to allow us to book for family and friends when we all travel together.

I don't think we'll buy any more points. We're served very well by transfer points, and the nice thing about transfer points is that there's no ongoing commitment. If we had another contract, I think we'd end up selling that one in a few years when the kids are older, and I don't really want to deal with the extra level of risk in case resale values plummet at some point.

I have a whole lot of SSR points. I like knowing they can be sold in a month for what I paid. That will be exactly what happens when kids outgrow WDW.

First contracts bought in 2024, adding on since then and we’re at 3,376 points now. Not sure how many more I need, but I can’t resist a good deal.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?

Yes, definitely. I would never pay cash for the room types we stay in now. Considering we were a value resort family for 20 years, old habits die hard.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?

Aulani GV OV for 6 nights coming up in March will be the most expensive single reservation use of points so far, but the rest of our trips are Villas only with a lot of CC cabins and Poly Bungalow stays mixed in.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?

No - but I will be gifting contracts worth 2400 points to my 4 kids over the next 10 years, which will leave me dangerously underfunded to meet my wife’s Disney expectations.

Have you ever rented your points?

No - but there will come a time soon when we are not spending all the points we have (we cruise DCL a lot), and the $35K dues bill is damn serious.

How long have you owned your points?

We bought our first contract about 5 years ago. Sitting at 750 points, and will probably add a few more, but that is not because of my immediate family's use, but inviting my sister/brother in law etc and booking rooms for them.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?

Yes, but remember its a timeshare. You have to look at it that way. Our pattern of stays has also changed, but we wind up inviting more family members, which is worth it to us, hence the added points as our trips have grown.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?

Nothing bigger than a 2 bedroom believe it or not! We are always out of points. (2 bedroom at VGF is like a small house if you have not stayed yet)

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?

No.

Have you ever rented your points?

No.

Wow, and I thought we loved Disney!!

Originally, I bought 150 in 2007. And have added on 7 times to get to 650 points. Last purchase was VDH in 2023. No plans to purchase any more at this time.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Yes - I feel like I have definitely gotten a lot of value out of the points that I have.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
Booked 2 hotel rooms at Disneyland Hotel for one night for a birthday celebration for my niece. Secondary was the first time I booked a 1 bedroom for 2 of us - I had excess due to Covid closure and splurged and ended up buying more points after that to get the 1 bedroom for longer trips moving forward.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
I do expect to sell some my 1 SSR contract in the next 5-10 years. It is the one I bought to make 1 bedrooms easier to afford for longer trips with my mom. As her health is declining and I believe her Disney days are over, I expect I may sell that contract and go back to studios for just me.

Have you ever rented your points?
Rent - no. But I did let my friend use my points for a short trip in 2020 since I had some previously banked points that expiring that I was going to lose.
