For those who own at Poly or BLT (or both)

I don’t know about that-those fireworks looked pretty damn good! Nothing is perfect. I’m liking BLT .. it doesn’t seem to get as crowded as Poly and the point charts for Poly are high

And it’s a bit cheaper point wise on resale.
And like everyone else who isn't staying at the Poly, you can always take the monorail over there and watch from the Poly anyway! 🤣

If I didn't have over 600 points already with my next add on pushing me to 800+ I'd probably be doing BLT instead of Poly. I'm getting to the point where more points isn't necessarily beneficial to me because I pretty much have enough to do what I want each year already and the dues are racking up. For you on the other hand it sounds like you're closer to the beginning of your addonitis journey where just having a significant amount of economical points is beneficial for you so you can get your annual stay. I'm always like hrm, it's awfully tempting to add 250 points of BLT resale instead of 150 Poly direct and get some grand villas but then I remember that for a GV that costs 100 points.. it's still about 800 dollars in dues I dropped for that one night. You on the other hand I'd imagine would use the points in a much better fashion than I would booking studios and 2BRs and etc. But anyways I'd agree with going BLT in your scenario.

It's almost getting to the point where if we buy more than this, we won't have a way to use them which is never a good thing. I say this now but then I end up booking random staycations
I thought this when I added on points during The Great VGF Direct Fire Sale. Now, 2 years later, I have borrowed points for the first time. There is always a way to use them ...
So..sounds like I should give up my dream of New Year’s Eve in a theme park view ..I was thinking a split stay ..TPV for New Year’s Eve and then going to my home at AKL for Jan 1-6
My favorite split stay for fireworks is a monorail resort over Christmas, with MVMCP fireworks, and the New Years' fireworks from my Riviera resort: Epcot up close, MK farther away.
This was all great advice about BLT! Sounds like it has better views and is cheaper..I wonder if it gets as crowded as Poly..that is the one downer to that resort..can be way too people-y
Contemporary gets very crowded but BLT is quite peaceful. And we've had pretty good luck viewing fireworks from the outer ring from Lake view (preferred) and resort (standard) rooms.

Hahah I know I make these plans but famous last words are "I'm done adding on". I have 335 at RIV and then 125 at AKV and 200 at AUL. Leaving AUL out of the equation because I don't want to touch my AUL trips but if I buy 150 at Poly and then alternate banking AKV and Poly that'll be 250 at AKV and 300 at Poly per year and then my 335 at RIV annually.

If this isn't enough points, the plan is to potentially drop AKV and then rebuy into a larger BLT contract or add onto Poly with resale but I THINK this will be enough. If I add another contract past Poly I'm pretty sure my wife will leave me though.

Personally I'd go BLT because Poly doesn't do much for me, and I like the cheaper points chart at BLT...

But, I would probably buy BLT and go to Top of the World lounge... and strive for standard view....

Even better yet, given the high points charts I'd stay at OKW and then use the Top of the World Lounge perk and use the Minnie vans/uber/lyft.

BLT wins in both point cost and inventory number of 1BRS. It is the obvious choice unless you absolutely love Poly and hate BLT
Yup. This is the way. We own at both Poly and BLT.

Lower points at BLT than Poly for 1BR
Theme park view is closer. At night parking lot isn't as noticeable for watching fire works.
For New Years, BLT is a closer walk to MK if you wish to be on Main Street then quickly head back to the room.
Monorail ride to Poly Dec 30 or 31 will be next to impossible. Boat rides will be packed as well.
BLT has a viewing deck for DVC members.
BLT has Villian's Lair previously Top Of the World Lounge. I think you need direct points to book here.
BLT has less if any non staying resorts guests passing through versus Poly

Don’t they have a NYE special event at Top of the World Lounge? I could swear they used to, but many things changed with the pandemic and after.

What is the best way back to Poly at the end of the day?

Is there a Poly specific boat ride? Is jumping on the TTC ferry and walking back doable? Sounds like monorail can be tough

The boat from MK to Poly stops at GF first. It goes MK > GF > Poly > MK.

You can take the resort monorail back (3rd stop), express monorail to TTC and walk to Poly, ferry boat to TTC and walk to Poly, or walk from MK through GF and then to Poly.

The walk from TTC to PVB DVC longhouses is very convenient. The walk from TTC to PVB IT would be across the entire resort approaching GF.

If you leave after fireworks I'd probably consider just walking from MK or the boat. I took the monorail back after fireworks and it was miserable. Any other time when the lines aren't insane I'd probably do the monorail.

If feet are dead tired at the end of the night and it's after fireworks and walking isn't an option, I'd probably do the boat to TTC and walk back.
