Sorry I haven't posted much lately but I have been really busy. We are selling our house and there's so much to do! I packed up all my scrapbook supplies already so I haven't scrapped in quite awhile.

Anyway, since my supplies are not accesible, I have been playing around a lot with Photoshop and I started scrapping digitally.
My friend got married last week-end and she really wanted me to make her a wedding SB, so I decided to do it digitally (shhh don't tell her, she's on her honeymoon now and I haven't told her yet! :teeth: )

Anyway, long story short...when I work in Photoshop, when choosing a font, the font doesn't show (like in MS Word) it only comes up with the font name, which doesn't help me much! So I was trying to come up with some way of printing them out on paper so I can decided on font styles and I found something I never knew I ever had! It came with Scrapbook Studio and it's called Agfa Font Manager.

Ok, I feel like a total idiot for not knowing I had this cus this is AWESOME!!! You can print a font catalogue and it's perfect!
You can choose all your fonts or just the ones you want to print and it prints out the name of the font and about a dozen or more characters of that font!

I printed out 72 pages of fonts last night and now I am putting them in sheet protectors and into a binder.

Okay, so now I just need some more fonts LOL ::yes::

By the way....I LOVE digital scrapbooking! It's very different and I've had to get use to the change but I love the look! My style is sharp and crisp and that's what digital gives you! I am seriously considering starting my own digital SB business. I've already purchased my domain name and now I have about a month's work ahead of me to set it up and stuff.

What do you think? Am I crazy??:crazy2:

OKAY... so how do you print the font samples? I asked this question a while back on this board, but didn't really get a terrific answer (sorry to those of you who tried to help). I did go into my fonts folder in the "MY CONTROL PANEL" setting and it seemed like it was going to print, but then it seemed to sort of "overload" and didn't print. I have LOADS of fonts. I am sort of font-crazy. Someone recently provided a link for www.acidfonts.com. They have HUNDREDS of FREE fonts.... I went a little wacky!

Anyhow, if you can tell me some easy way to print my fonts samples you would be my new best friend!! (BTW, I don't have any fancy scrapping software.... do I have to have the font manager you were talking about?.... how much $ and where did it come from?)

Thanks so much..............Pamela

Pamela,

I have looked for programs over the years to print my fonts but couldn't find anything. Maybe someone else knows of another program that will do it but I haven't found one until last night!

You will need the program I mentioned. It's called Hallmark's Scrapbook Studio. I didn't particularly like this program so I never really looked at it much but when you install it, it installs a few things and one of them was the Agfa Font Manager. It's not listed on the CD itself so I didn't know it came with it.

When I bought it a year ago, it was like $20 or something, but it looks like there is a newer version and it's much cheaper.

Here is the listing for it on Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005Y0J4/qid=1097874312/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_etk-software/102-5446754-3696969?v=glance&s=software&n=229534

I can only find Scrapbook Studio 2 so I can't guarantee that the Agfa program is included in this edition since I only have the first edition but maybe someone else here has it and can tell you if it's included as well.

This is a perfect way to print out all your fonts so you have them
in a hard copy format.

Let me know if you buy it, if you like it as much as me :)

I have Hallmark Scrapbook Studio and I love the fonts it came with too! Having the printout makes it so easy. I haven't used the program to scrap pagesbut I use it to alter any click art I want to use.

So...what all's involved in setting up your business? How do you get clients? You said you bought your domain name, will you be developing your own website?

You asked if you're crazy - I don't know! :teeth: Do you truly love it? Willing to spend a lot of time for a little $ at the beginning? Sounds like it, from what you've said, so I say NO you're NOT crazy go for it! ::yes::

Keep us updated and good luck to you! Or should I say...much pixie dust for your new venture!!

jennz,

Thanks for the support! It made me smile ::yes::

Yes, I will be setting up a website for it, I still have some
things I have to work on before I can start that up but
that will be the start of it.

I just finished doing my first digital SB for my friend for her wedding (should I post pics online??? anyone want to see it?)
and it turned out quite well for my first attempt with this
media. I am still learning Photoshop, it's such a HUGE
and POWERFUL program but just doing this SB, I have
learned LOTS!

But I really enjoyed doint it ( except for the few times I got
frustrated cus I didn't know how to do something
I wanted to do  ) and I could totally see myself
doing it for a very long time, even if it's only
part time and I don't get many clients.

As soon as I get it up and running, I will let you guys know,
however, technically, I'm not supposed to post a link
to it here on the DIS as it would be a commercial site.:scared:

I'd love to see the pics...someone else posted about digital scrapbooking, I know nothing about it...

can you post a link so we can see it but not actually do it to solicit business?

You're welcome for the support...I think it's awesome that you found a way to make $ doing something you love!:sunny:

Timon,
I use Photoshop daily as a part of my job and I am still learning it! It is an awesome program. I came acrossed a magazine called Inside Photoshop (I believe Element K is the publisher). It is WONDERFUL! I have learned so much about Photoshop from this magazine. Check it out if you can.

Cynde

PS. I LOVE your website. I Have it bookmarked. I was reading your trip reports and enjoying them. Are you going back to WDW anytime soon?

Cynde,

Thanks for the info on the magazine. I will have to check it out
although there are WAY more magazines available in the States, I might not find it here in Canada (I'm used to this by now, you guys get all the good stuff :teeth: )

I'm glad you are enjoying my website. I had lots of fun making it :)

We won't be going back to Disney until December of 2005. We've had a run of really bad luck lately (both hubby and I lost our
jobs) and so unfortunately, there's no trips planned for the near future. We are trying to do WDW for 1 week and then take the Disney Magic 7 day Western cruise on Dec 3rd, next year.

Only 408 more days till disney!!! LOLOLO:rolleyes:

Aww Cass, I'm sorry to hear about your job situation. :( I really hope things turn around for you two.

Good luck to you and I'll keep a watch for your new (and wonderful i might add) scrapbook and disney pages!

Cynde
