We just booked a couple nights on cash thru Member Services and she told me I didn't have to put down a deposit; it's just payable when we check in. Does that sound right? That's the first time I've ever heard of Disney not requiring some kind of payment before arrival.

That is correct, no deposit required. You should get a confirmation letter just like you do with a points reservation.

Okay then! Thanks for confirming that for me. :goodvibes

MS doesn't have any way of tracking money on cash reservations. So you just pay when you get there.

I've done it, that's correct. They should have taken a credit card # as a guarantee. If you cancel 6 days (or 5?) or less, they charge 1 night.

Is this discount because you are a member?

I am considering purchasing, and trying to cover all advantages / perks to in my decision making process..

The DVC Member discount is 25% of the usual rack rate. It may or may not be a better deal than available with other discounts, but we've used it a number of times.

No deposit is required and there is a 5 day cancellation before arrival. We just did this with a GV at HH and paid the charge at check-in. Room taxes will apply to the amount quoted.

The discount is not always available, but it's well worth asking for anytime you want a cash reservation at a DVC resort. In addition, the reservation can be for a guest even when the member is not staying in the room. Originally, DVC stated that the member MUST be registered in the room, but that has changed. I verified that this week while making a reservation for this October.

The discount is definitely a nice perk. :thumbsup2

They didn't take a CC# as a guarantee ... should they have done that? The MS rep just said, "They'll bill you if you don't cancel and don't show."

It could be - after all, they know where you live, LOL (and can "freeze" your DVC account if necessary). OTOH, not all MS reps are properly trained.

If it were me, I'd call back to confirm I had a cash reservation, just in case.
