this is our 3rd cruise and being a family of 6 we always book 2 cabins . the first 2 times we received both sets of docs at the same time .however this time we received one set of docson friday (5 days ago) and still have not received the others. has anyone else ever gotten their docs this far apart and should i worry and call dcl or just be patient? we don't cruise until aug 31.

We are travelling with a party of 6 this 8/3/02 and we received both sets of docs the same day, in different FedEx boxes.

I would give DCL a call and check to see if they were sent. Maybe they got misdirected along the way. DCL should be able to give you a FedEx tracking # is they were mailed out.

I can't answer your question for you, but I have one for you! I have never cruised before (have gone to DW for the past 4 years). We are a family of 5 (3 children), and I researched the DCL for next April....10,000 dollars for the 5 of us!! Can I be so personal and ask you what your total will be for a family of 6? I know April is peak, but I don't have alot of choice given I have a freshman in high school this coming year and can't miss school and I won't go in the Summer. Thanks so much!

April has some really great prices if you can avoid the week before and during Easter. You may make out better by booking two connecting category #10 staterooms. That's what Hubby and I did this April -- and the privacy was wonderful --- PLUS we had TWO bathrooms. No balcony -- but we were able to snag two of the connecting secret porthole rooms. I have pics on my website linked below.

jillpie, for this cruise we booked 2 cat 8 connecting and we are actually going to be 7 people as we invited my father along .we are paying a total of 5830.39. and we also have a shipboard credit of 200.00. but i must say that we booked while onboard during our last cruise which was in oct (shortly after 9/11)so its possible we got a very good deal.also this does not include air or transfers as we are taking the autotrain down .(hopefully)

We are a family of 9 in 3 cabins, on the 8/3 Magic. Two of the three came (in seperate Fed Ex's) and after contacting both DCL and Fed Ex discovered that the third had been sent to the wrong address.

They traced it and were not able to retrieve it, so DCL promptley sent out a new set of documents.

I didn't hesitate to call them on the 1st day. Both were very helpful. :) :D

Jillpie - you and your family sound like a candidate for the Disney Vacation Club. If you go on the Disney Cruise with yur DVC points, you aren't paying anything but points. Also, it seems you could invest in some good points for what you are paying for one cruise.

OK, now I have a question -- how does one get those trips listed at the bottom of and, more specifically, how do you get a countdown clock showing how many days, etc. till the next Disney trip? I'd like to include that in my email responses. Thanks!:p

FOJMO-

Welcome to the Boards! You can add past trips by editing your profile, and the countdown clock has a site.... can anyone help out with this?

Thanks-
Erin :D

Thanks! I'm posting this reply to see if what I did worked. :p

since we are taking my dad along and he will be flying in from his home in ohio , all the docs for that cabin must wait until his flight info is confirmed at 30 days from the cruise date .i have asked 3 different cms now to make sure but i hope all of those docs aren't going to one address .

Gosh- I really think that $10,000 for a family of six is pretty high-we went right after school let out-7 day- two Cat. #6 cabins-therefore paid for two adults in one cabin and 2 adults in the other (1345.00 each there) then $402. for other two children-we made our own air reservations at $220.00-maybe its because of the Easter break and all-

jillpie: Who did you book your trip through? I checked the Disney Cruise Line web site and the price I got for the 2 available weeks in April was about $6400 for a family of 5(I just estimated kids ages and put in 8, 10, & 13) Maybe the week you are going is already booked solid for category 4 rooms

We are a family of 5 traveling in 2 connecting cabins for less than $4000.

I'd call around and see is Costco, cruise411.com, etc. would offer a better price.

my3kids, very interesting. When I started my research, I called a few TA's and they called the Disney travel people (forget their name!), so I'm assuming they included flights, and everything else you can think of with the cruise. Maybe I'll go back and just figure out the cruise price and do everything seperately? I already have flights for April 16 and April 26 for DW for next year, but boy would I love to change our plans for a cruise instead (still keep the flights). What do you think?

Jillpie: Definately have them price it without the air, insurance, or transfers....very pricey. Especially since you have your airfare already! I think they were offering to charge me $350 for a ticket that is regularly $122! Also, Costco(for a $45 dollar membership fee if you aren't already a member) will take 10% off off the cruise fare with a verandah cabin. If you want travel insurance, you can have them add that back in after you get your cruise only quotes, or you can purchase it for less, most likely, from your own insurance agent or from one of several travel insurers.

If your week wasn't one of the available times for a party of 5, look into 2 connecting category 10 rooms. We will have 2 split baths, more room, and some privacy for less than the cost of 1 category 4 room(although it was very close in price)

To get ideas of cost for 1 vs. 2 rooms, you can play around with room ideas on the DCL website. They will charge the full fare for the first 2 people in a room. Children 13 and over are going to have to pay more than children under 13, so make sure your HS son is listed in a room with a parent(since the first and second in a room pay full fare anyway) then list the other parent with the 2 younger children in the second. Check no airfare needed, then get the quotes, select the cabin category, then on the next screen you can deselect transfers and insurance.(The amount I quickly checked in my last post even still had ins. and transfers included, so the actual would be a good bit less)

Let us know how it works out!

my3kids, thank you for taking the time to help me out here. There is nothing more that I would love right now is to try this cruise. I am going to try everything you suggested tonight with my DH with me on the computer to get his thoughts. Also, I'm having my TA look into it for me today, but I didn't read all your tips till now. I am a Costco member. I kind of feel guilty because my TA has done so much work for me the last 4 years, I hate to cancel my DW trip with her (room only), only to book with Costco, but if the savings are big I will consider it, stupid, I know. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it turns out.

OK, here's the scoop (sorry to original poster to this thread, I promise I'll end it here!). The lowest price I got was thru Costco, 6924.00 for the 5 of us next April. Add on flight 1200.00, hotel for 3 days prior (plans were 11 days at DW, so got early flights a few months ago), transportation and any added expenses while on the cruise and it easily adds up to almost 10 grand. I think I'll stick to our 11 days at DW...and I'll continue to dream of a future cruise with maybe just my husband someday. It is SO expensive for one week (not that DW isn't), but at least we can stay 11 days for much cheaper than one week at sea. Thanks for all your help!
