I have been going through our past photo albums recently and I noticed that back in 1994 when my DH and I went there for our honeymoom, that Goofy had eyelashes and now he does not.

Has anyone else ever notice anything different about the characters?

I notice how much better the characters look now. Pooh was quite scary looking back in 1979. I've never seen a bigger head on a body in my life. And many of them looked like they were wearing bibs from where the material would overlap the body from the head area.

I have a picture of my son with Pooh outside the MK in 1987. Back then, Pooh walked around with a Hunny pot on top of his head. And I wouldn't have noticed, but I see what you mean about Goofy-he DID have eyelashed then, but not now. My pictures of Minnie, Tigger, and Pluto are identical, though.

Mickey's head has changed. If you look at the old photos, his face is different.

Has anyone seen the original Mickey from Disneyland, THAT is outright SCARY! Like I couldnt sleep scary, I think it was a black scuba suit with red shorts, and a mask that was just...uugghhh, I cant even talk about it :guilty:

We were just looking through old family slides of my first visit in 1974. As the previous poster said you could see how the head of the costume attached to the body and all the characters were slightly "off" looking. My DH was laughing saying my family must of been the only one who knew about the place, it was pretty empty in the pictures. I also remember you just walked up to the characters who were walking around. There were no lines or mobs of people.

Yes, those original DL character costumes were hideous! When DL opened, they could not afford to make costumes for the characters, so they borrowed ones from the Ice Capades, which had been doing Disney-themed shows for several years. The costumes were basically a large head (that in Mickey and Minnie's cases at least looked like it came from a badly homemade stuffed toy) with regular clothing (to allow ease of movement on the ice) and plain shoes to replace the ice skates. It wasn't until the mid-'60s that Mickey and Minnie got their full body suits and puffy shoes.

As a 5 year old kid on my first visit, I sure didn't want to cuddle or hug those creatures!! :earseek:

I was gathering some brochures for my friend who is going next month and had two that had come from the Florida Welcome Center two years in a row (2004 and 2003). It was the red one that has all the parks in it. At first glance it looked the same (has Mickey, Goofy, and Donald Duck on the front, but then I noticed that Donald looked funny. His eyes were different and his outfit had changed to a darker blue from one year to the next. It amazed me that I hadn't noticed that in the parks.
