Hi, all. I am pretty infrequent poster, but I thoroughly enjoy reading the very informative messages posted on the "disboards"! My question is this: For all of the families who brave the August heat in WDW, how bad is it really? My family of four (me, husband, 7-year old son, 2-year old son) are going at the end of August. Three out of four of us have been to WDW a few times already. We are absolutely not the "do all, see all" type of family. We like to do things at a slow pace and if we miss a few things - well, a good reason to come back. We did WDW when my oldest son was younger. We took a mid-day trip back to the resort (Polynesian, at the time) and let him rest, nap, or swim. But, our previous trips were 2 in October, and 1 in September. Because of school, we are doing the summer thing this time around.

I'm curious about any past experiences that families would like to share - tips, suggestions, even mistakes they've made. What time do you schedule your mid-day break, or do you just play it by ear? Besides hydration, how do you keep your little ones comfortable in the heat? We are a water family, so we'll be traveling with our own water tanker (just about). We'll be staying at the Wilderness Lodge for the first time.

I thank you in advance for any and all replies.

You guys are really the best!

We go every August. We go early, leave right after/before lunch, and go back in the evenings. I also give each kid their own frozen water bottle and mister fan. Last year I used one of those gel filled bandanas to keep my neck cool, and that really helped. We go slow, and if the kids (or us ;) ) start to get cranky, it's pool time!!!

We've gone the end of July and October. This year we're going in August. Honestly, even in October we had to leave the parks at lunch time because it was getting too hot for my fair skinned red head DD 9. For us, if it's 85 or 95 and full sun, it's hot. Therefore, we always go to the parks in the morning, leave around lunch time and go back in the evening. The good thing about August is the parks are open later at night. For me, the stress of taking kids out of school is not worth it. We will be going in the summer from now on.

Also, we find that when we go to Epcot we can stay longer since there are alot of things to do inside in Future World.

we have gone for the past 8 years for the last two weeks of august.
it is very hot. however, it all depends on how well you deal with the heat/humidity. i like it hot and have not had a problem dealing with the heat. we wear hats and sunblock. we keep hydrated. we stay out of the sun as much as possible. we take breaks and go back to the hotel to swim to cool off, if needed.

if you are uncomfortable in extreme heat, august is not a good time for you to be in wdw. however, the parks are less crowded towards the end of the month. prices for the on site hotels also go down at the end of august.

i think that the month of july is unbearable at disney because it is crowded and hot.

We were HOT! (lol) We are from NY, so warm weather is a thing of seldom occurances here, and the FL summer heat was extreme! We bought those little fans that you fill with water and sprayed those on us most of the day. Enjoyed frequent trips into the gift shops, and that was just my hubby and I. My daughter was not yet born. * we did however find out we were pregnant at disney world!* :cool1: SO, just frequent shade trips, lots of cold drinks, and light clothing. Have fun!!!
