For those who bring bikes.....

I have a hitch mount bike carrier and I am debating on bringing bikes or not while we stay at the cabins. I would like bikes but I dread stopping for the night and taking the bikes into a hotel/motel room. For those of you that dont put bikes in your camper do you take the bikes off at night when you are traveling?

Run a cable lock thru the bike frames and around the bike rack a couple of times so they can't be removed from the rack. You can get a really long, heavy cable like I use on my motorscooter and a kryptonite lock. This should do the trick. Also, you should use a locking hitch pin to keep the rack on the receiver secure.

We've taken our bikes other places and left them on the rack - just ran a lock through them.

I think you'll be glad you brought the bikes. it is fun to ride around the campground and to the marina

We have a hitch mount which holds our two bikes between the motorhome and the tow car. We always spend a leisurely four days getting from Canada to FW.

All we use is a cable lock wrapped around the bikes and the hitch, all is secure. No problems at all!

The bikes stay on the hitch until we arrive at FW.

We wouldn't consider going to "the Fort" without our bikes.

Yeah, bikes are great at the Fort. They're always ready when you are - no charging or waiting for a bus.

Yeah I think I will bring them. We have a pretty full schedule in the parks but I know my 11 yr old DD and I would ride them if we had them.

Riding bikes around the loops is my favorite thing to do at the Fort. Bring them...especially if you don't plan on having a golf cart.

Yep, same here, just lock the bike to the rack!! Also, I've seen folks tie plastic bags to the seat to help keep them dry.

Good Idea about the bags on the seats. Can anyone tell me if you can ride your bikes down to the marina to catch the boat to MK ? Is there a place to lock them up together. I've never been to FW but it looks like it could be a long way from some of the loops.

Bike shops also carry travel covers that protect the hadle bars and seat.

Yes. They have bike racks everywhere. The one at the marina is past the point where the golf cart parking is, just as you enter the beach area on the way to the dock. We haven't even rented a golf cart there yet...just bicycle everywhere. We lock them together (along with the kid cart DH pulls) and cover the seats. We bring shower caps for our bicycle seats and a small (weighted at the corners) tarp for the cart and just attach it with bungee cords. Works great

We loved having our bikes at the Fort and were glad we put the small effort into bringing them.

FYI - there's also a place to park your bikes where the busses pick up for the theme parks. On the subject of locks - we locked ours, but saw a whole lot of bikes unlocked at the Fort. Although, admittedly, I don't think anyone would take my "frankenbike" even if I had a "take me" sign on it! LOL!

We use those food storage wraps that have elastic edges. You use them to say...cover a plate of food. They look like a shower cap..but are thiner and come in various sizes. They work well on the bike seats.
