For those who are tired of increase costs

WE bought back in 93. Not selling our points yet, but our vacationing style has changed in accordance with exorbitant ticket prices. We do one day at MK, and skip the rest of WDW parks. We have season passes to BG Williamsburg, so that lets us into Sea World, BG Tampa and Aquatica for free, including parking. Some years we go to Universal.

The best way to complain is to not go at all or to not renew APs, not eat at the restaurants or visit less frequently. That will send a clear message to the corporation. With that in mind, the parks are packed! I am on the West Coast, and I have to say that the DLR no longer has an off season and many WDW vets may say the same. Many complain about the crowds and the cost yet attendance is at an all time high. Our lack of presence must be known in order to affect some sort of change but the question is: will we do it? Will we not go and sell our timeshares? That is the question!

Based on the crowds this week, not sure it had any affect. Some probably won't come or go as often due to price increases but others will take their place. Many of the Halloween parties were sold out, Epcot tonight was a mob scene due to food and wine.

I had lunch with a local friend, and she said the price increases will not affect them. They do the Florida resident flex pay which she said is much more reasonable than Universal's where you have to pay half the ticket in advance.

Especially when the asset is rising in value, and you can rent the points for a 100% to 200% annual return on top of that.

Umm, don't forget they also plunged in value between 2008-2012. The economy has a lot to do with values.

I blame the crowds. If fewer people went, they would have to lower prices. And improve the food. Maybe sprinkle more pixie dust, just so people would come. So not only do I have to wait in lines longer because of the crowds, but I also have to pay more!

Holy Crap! I just looked at some resale values after reading this thread....We've been owners for about 4 years now.....and I could sell mine for at least $30 more per point than I paid! Sure I'm not happy about the price increases....but I've managed to work it to my advantage the best I've been able too. Wasn't really looking to do an AP this year, but airfare for some upcoming times was rediculously cheap....I could resist. Hoping to saturate my wife because after 4 trips from Dec to next November totaling 20 days....we'll be out of points for quite a while.

I have seen a number of new posts on the boards of late of complaints about APs going up, food quality going down, toilet paper getting thinner. What I dont see is all these people who say they are selling for these reasons complaining about getting high resale prices. I dont see these same people saying Hey come and take our timeshare for pennies because I am tired of these costs.
I am not trying to inflame people, But I am tired of one sided complaints. If your that upset about things more then your room cost, give your timeshare away. There are lots that think its great and that is why direct sales keep selling and the resales have surged to SSR asking for close to $100 per. Crazy right, I should sell for that reason alone.
The World still has lots to offer my family and friends, stop being so down.

I already sold one of my contracts, not because of the cost but more so for the low quality.

I'm glad you think it's great. people have a right to complain if they feel they are not getting what their investment is worth.

As for me, Disney gets way less of my money. I rarely eat on site, I refuse to pay premium dollar for mediocre food, we use to go for 10 day trips, now after 5 days we're ready to go home primarily because 3 out of the 4 parks are old and need help. Can you honestly say that Hollywood studios is worht the price of admissions the way it is now????

I'm glad the world still offers you something, why wouldn't I be but I equally don't appreciate the insinuation that I am some how being "down". My complaints are based on logical thinking and real life.

So I will do as others have done. I am basically using my dvc as an investment. I rent out my points and make enough money to cover my annual dues plus some.

Then I go on vacation to places where I feel I get real value. but I will admit I purchased my dvc almost 15 years ago lol, I would make out very well if I sold it today so uhmm no I will not be selling it for "pennies". I did not get wealthy by making foolish decisions nor paying for services not given.

lastly, I truly don't understand how people get upset or "tired" as you say of a particular topic. there is an easy solution. DON'T open any thread you don't wish to hear the topic.....LOL op, if you're tired of the complaints simply stop reading them?

Do you really know people who are happy with price increases???

Yes, I can honestly say DHS is still worth the price of admission.
After years of being in the height-restricted phase of DHS barely being 2 shows and 2 rides... It's now great being able to do RnR and ToT as a family, plus the other few rides.

Without RnR, I may have to consider reducing Disney tickets and go to Universal.

If you have AP's or park hoppers, you are paying for park time by the hour. If a park is only good for 3 hours, then have the good 3 hours, then go to another park to have more hours of fun. It's not a waste having more good hours of fun.

Fair enough, to each his own. DHS isn't worth much for us. I swear my sons were born 4 ft tall. they've never had height restrictions so from the very first trip when the youngest was 6, they have been able to ride every thing. In fact many of the older rides like the bumper cars in MK and space mtn they can barely fit in, they are so tall.

for 3 lousy rides it's not worth the travel time for us. Indiana Jones, GMR and muppets, long in the tooth. Beauty and the Beast, gray haired and tons of empty buildings. lol, so much potential, so much disappointment. we use to go and it literally took longer for us to get there than time actually spent in the park. rarely do I ever recommend first timers to skip a park but I have recommended those who are shot on time and money to pass.

I maybe back whenever they get star war land finished but since we go in the hot month of August for us it's really not even worth going out in the hot sun for.

like I said, we've cut waaay back. 5 day trips max (and thats including travel time) maybe one meal onsite of the five days. My ap expires in July I most definitely will not be renewing.

Lol, but Disney does the same thing, raise prices without any icrease in service or goods and then everyone's tune changes. Now it's "don't even think about complaining".

I think that there may even be a short time period where certain resorts start to sell above direct pricing. I know, that sounds crazy, but I think certain locations may be desirable enough, and difficult enough to get through Disney directly, that the prices may go up to direct pricing or above at resorts like BLT, VGF, BCV, and BWV. I think eventually the length of the contract would start to come into play, so it would only be for a few years that this pricing might happen, but those particular locations are sought after and often not just readily available from Disney.

I actually did sell right now, one contract I'm finishing up deed transfer paperwork and the other is at Disney for RoFR. Definitely feel like it's a good time to get out price-wise (and there are other reasons why concerning the parks).

Kinda difficult to say what a a 16 point nights stay at the new POLY wing actually would cost you right now.

Your purchase price is up $30 in 4 years, 4 years of dues is about $20, you are up $10 after dues and purchase.

2) It might/should go up even further, cashing out is not a bad thing, renting is not a bad thing either IMO. Not for everyone, but with the new additions they/some may want to start visiting again, and the price may follow the trend with the new additions coming. Renting at $15 with $5 dues means the price can fall $10 a point per year with no effect.

I agree with all of your sentiments-- but where are you renting for $15 pp? If that is the case i'm buying more contracts.....

A lot of XMAS week, but even got $13.50 in July.

At even $10, the asset can loose $5 a year and no effect.

One of the factors in me selling is the price increases, but not just in park tickets (though that's symbolic of the overall culture). I believe one reason resale prices have jumped so much is Disney has raised the cost of new contracts so much that it has dragged all the resale pricing along with it. I'm not complaining about that at all and there must be a market there for Disney to keep raising the prices through the roof. However, I'm not going to play along with that game and have tapped out. It wasn't long ago that my contracts would have sold in the low 60's and one economic downturn will send them spiraling downward again. I'm content to get out now.

ITA. We are in the same boat...second contract just went to ROFR this week. I feel like it was a very good time to get out. We can always trade in easily and cheaply as we don't mind SSR 1 bedrooms at all. However, with the pass prices, crowds, lowered food quality, etc. I don't see us even trading in very frequently. It's great that people are still happy with DVC. I'm glad someone was happy enough to buy our contracts! I feel like we got out while the getting was good.
