I have to agree they are pretty cool Barb. And it is moments like those that my co-leader and I hold onto when we have the other sorts of moments that are typical of girls this age!
The rest of our meeting was spent working on a Self-Defense Badge, in part working on techniques to break a hold if someone grabs them with "hostile intent". Several of the girls have done this before but a couple haven't and were pretty timid about it. At one point I heard one of our patrol leaders talking with one of them and she said, "Look, you can't worry about hurting me. Bad guy is after you and you need to protect yourself...do you think Jessica Lynch worried about hurting someone in her training? Obviously she learned to fight well. Now fight for yourself!" She continued to be hesitant and I heard, "Our Marines are fighting too, you wouldn't want them to think they'd been adopted by a bunch of whimps would you?" Part of me was grinning about this exchange - even though this was a pretty serious topic!
Keep us posted.
