For those that wear dresses to WDW

I'm not Pooh-size, but I'm not a skinny-minnie either. I don't like shorts in the parks. I like knee length tank dresses with bike shorts under, capris, or a denim skort.
I use Body Glide and love it. I read, here on the Dis, about a product of which I can't remember the name - they're stabilizers that you sew into your shorts to keep them from riding up. Maybe someone that uses these will chime in ....

I read back through the thread, seems someone has already mentioned No-Riders. I believe this was the product.

Athleta has great skorts and they range in size from xxs - 2x. I live in these in the summer. They have mesh bike shorts built in and most are pull on. I wear them to Disney every year and they dry quickly after water rides. I normally don't have a chafing issue, but combine sweat and miles of walking....not pleasant.

Add me to the list of fans of Athleta-I LOVE their whatever skort-it is cool, comfy, stretches and can be dressed up or down-that and my tevas and I am ready for the day at Disney :cool1:

The Athleta skorts look a little pricey to me. Those of you that have them, are they really worth it?

I recently discovered the Athleta skorts and I love them. I haven't gone to Disney since I bought them (I bought 4, in 3 different styles) but I've been wearing them around FL and they are super comfy. I did buy the tall version in one pair even though I'm only average height. When I measured the inseam length against my legs it just seemed like it would be more comfortable. I bought two Dipper skorts, a printed Whatever skort ( on clearance) and an Oasis skort. The Oasis is the one I bought "tall". It's also my favorite, it's pajama comfortable but looks nice. I'm thinking about getting it in olive too.

I got mine on sale-they are printed and I believe they cost around 29-WELL worth the money!! I have searched Ebay since getting those to see if I can find some for better prices and they do have some there-I do have to say I would pay full price for one I like them that much!!!

I am not super skinny, but I just DO NOT like shorts at all, cuz I can never find a pair that fits right. However, I will wear skirts or sundresses when I go on a vacation and I dont wear biking shorts underneath. I think it's all about hand placement when you get out of a car or other awkward situation. Of course, I've had lots of practice, cuz i havent worn shorts in probably 10 years. HTH!

Seems like they are owned by Gap. I wonder if you can use Gap discounts there as well? I have skirts from Athleta that I love for Disney- they are to the knee- knit so they pack great and instantly make me feel a little cuter.

The ones I was looking at in my size are between $55-60. I would snap up a few if I could find them for $29!!!

I am pin thin but love to wear dresses and skirts to the parks. Rarely would I ever wear pants, it is Florida.

I have found that I just need to take care when getting in and out of rides. That being said I love tennis skorts and skorts. They work great. If it is a dress then I go the exact opposite and just wear thongs unders :scared1: and make sure my dress is under me at all times. ALL TIMES!!! I haven't had a problem yet but DH helps keep the fabric tucked in when getting on rides.

Florida is just too hot and I hate having too much fabric touching me.

I love wearing dresses at WDW! After the first time, I wondered why I had ever worn shorts at all! SO much cooler! And since I'm (largely) doing it to beat the heat, I don't wear anything for "modesty" under it. I'm a mom...there is no such thing as modesty and self-respect. No matter how hard I try to maintain it, my son views me as his own personal jungle gym and clothes get tugged, lifted and hidden behind, etc. (not nearly as often as he's getting older thank goodness! there is hope that someday the whole world won't see my business!) I just try to be mindful of the way that I get in/out of ride vehicles.

I'd definitely recommend the body glide type products to avoid chaffing (LOL at "chub rub"!!)

I wear dresses all the time at the parks! I've always felt more comfortable in dresses and skirts, especially in the heat of summer. Not to mention the fact that I HATE the way I look in shorts. My favourite dress to wear is a sundress I bought a few years ago at AK. It drapes over my knees when I sit so I don't have to worry about flashing any unmentionables when I climb out of rides, and it's opaque so I don't have to wear any slips or bike shorts underneath! Over the years I've accumulated a range of "Disney-friendly" dresses and skirts that I pack instead of shorts :)

I hadn't planned on riding the indy cars, but hubby enjoys them - so we did and i was the "driver." OMG - i was so worried i flashed my underwear at someone getting in and out of that thing! plus driving with my knee up around my chest to fit in the drivers seat...I hope I didn't!! :scared1:

I ONLY wear dresses. I'm so much more comfortable in them. I live in the city so I often ride a bike to the grocery store/work/Target etc. If I am in a situatuion where my dress might fly up I use garters (simple, pretty one with as little as possible on it - mine are ivory silk wedding ones. The silk is comfortable and there is no tule, glitter, beads. Just VERY simple.) on both my legs. I put them far enough up that no one can see them BUT low enough down to not iritate my legs. I then take safety pins and pin my dress to the garters so that my dress can't fly up. I really only do this on windy days or when I am riding my bike.

I wouldn't recomend using them on the ENTIRE trip but if there are a few rides you are worried about or it's a pretty windy day at WDW then you can always carry them with you and excuse yourself to the ladies room to slip them on. Before you get on the ride just attach the safetypins to the outside. If it's a windy day and you are going to wear them all day then I would take a few more min to attach them from the inside so no one can see the safety pins hanging onto your dress.

Oh also, dresses with nothing under them can be SOOOO cool during the summer. Make sure you get only cotton dresses. For things like hiking and theme parks and everything where beauty isn't on my list of important things I am always very carefull to choose comfort over pretty. Cotton dresses are best. When they get wet they dry in a min (great for a cover-up over a bathing suite) and they dont fly up as often. Cotton also breathes soo well so on hot day its magical.

Here's my dilemma. I also hate wearing shorts. On our last summer trip 10 years ago I wore stretchy bike shorts, but I have avoided shorts since. So, for my upcoming August trip I would like to get some dresses. I don't want to order them from a catalog or online, I want to try them on, just like the sports sandals that I will also eventually buy for this trip! So, I need store suggestions. I want cotton, comfort, and short sleeves if possible instead of exposed shoulders. I think the last part is going to be the hardest to find. A house dress type of style that doesn't look like a house dress! Is this possible? My shoulders have not seen the sun in a very long time and I am worried that they will burn even with sunscreen. (not to mention that I usually don't look good in something that shows my upper arms!) Help! I live near a number of malls, Kohl's, Target, all the typical suburban stores. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Dresses at Kohls fall apart in a snap. Sure, khols can be cheap, but it's not worth it. Target is GREAT for simple cotton dress shopping. That's where most of my simple outdoorsy dresses come from. Look in the clearence section first. Mine usually have a ton of cotton dresses left overr from last fall/summer that are marked 70% off.

It's not as cheap, but, if there is a GAP, Old Navy, or Charollete russe close to you I would take a trip there. They always have quite a few comfortable cotton dresses during the summer and spring months. You could always look for coupons online and wait for a sale, maybe even wait untill it's tax free weekend in your state. Ours is in august, so I guess it really depends on when your trip is.

I'm not pooh sized, but I wear a lot of dresses in the summer both in and out of theme parks, and I've never had a problem. So long as the dress isn't too short, even getting in and out of rides is fine.

I have been on the look out for decent priced bike shorts for a while now. Taking a trip "Home" in Sept/Oct and know it will be warm and I will need anti-chaffing shorts. I cannot justify paying $10 for a pair of shorts that I wear under something so I was holding out. Yesterday I went to my local Dollar General and found Bobbie Brooks brand long leg shorts (to make your legs look smooth under things) for get, this $2!!!! They were on clearance for $4 and in the half off bin. Oh yes, I bought all 3 pairs they had in my size. Went to the other DG down the road from where I work :moped: and found 3 more pairs. They were not in the 50% off bin so I paid $4 for them, better than $10 a pair though. :faint: I got 6 pairs for 6 days at The World and paid less than what I would have paid for 1.5 pairs shipped. You may check your local DG if you are looking for a low priced alternative. I am sporting a pair today under my dress seeing how I like them. So far, so good.

OOH...thanks for that info...I will be making a trip to my DG today!

Hahaha, I wear skirts to the parks. But, we prefer Disney World when it's off season and cooler. So, I'm usually wearing a slip under my skirt. :rotfl2:

Another HUGE fan of target dresses and they don't run ridiculously small either!
