For those that wear dresses to WDW

::yes:: I started wearing dresses to WDW 2 years ago. I am so much more comfortable. I am pooh sized, size 20 and usually wear a 2x. I just purchased the Issac Mizrahi (sp?) t-shirt dress from QVC and they are awesome. No klinging, great fabric and nice colors. Sport savvy had a cute polo collar dress that I love to wear. I care what people think, and I am careful when walking around and I make sure the fit is "chub appropriate".

There is nothing worse than Pooh trying to look like Lumiere.

My secret weapon is Bra Liners. They are 100% cotton, completely washable and fit under the breast along the underwire. They catch sweat and are used daily in my life. I have about 20 and just keep them washed and ready to go. They usually come in a bag of three for $9.99 at Walter Drake. They also come in different lengths. So if you sweat there, these are a dream.

I am glad I found this thread - I have a couple of breezy/light weight skirts I was thinking of bringing. As for shorts, I like wearing bermuda-length shorts or the short (but not hello-my-butt-cheeks-are-out) "midi" length shorts (usually 4-5 inch inseam). Also for all kinds of skin maladies I find that my senstive skin sometimes reacts badly to anything except pure aloe. I don't know if disney sells it on property, so I get a big eco-size bottle and then I have a mini travel size bottle I refill every day and take with me. Store it with your cold waterbottles if you have them, and it keeps it cool which is VERY refreshing on chafed, sunburned, bug-bitten skin or in my case, eczema which is heat-aggrivated.

This is a fabulous thread! I was planning on wearing shorts and t-shirts. But a couple of weeks ago it hit 99 and I happened to have on a cotton button down shirt that was too big for me. (I'm working on becoming more of a Lumiere and less of a Pooh!;):thumbsup2). It was soooo cool. Ever since then I've been thinking about wearing a knee length sundress to the World in Sept. What shoes do you wear? I'm a little concerned of wearing my sock and tennis shoes, but don't think I can do flip flops or Toms. Any ideas? I am super cheap and don't want to spend more than $30-$40 for a pair of shoes!

The Athleta skorts look a little pricey to me. Those of you that have them, are they really worth it?

I bought a skort from Athleta after eyeing them for a few months. Unfortunately, and I don't know if it's just me, I have booty issues with it. I definitely have somewhat of an "apple bottom" and I find that the back bottom of the skort kind of duck tails out, making it look really awkward.

I have this problem with shorter skirts in general. I so badly wanted the skort to look good, because I loved that it was lightweight and wicking, but it just doesn't work for me...

Here's my dilemma. I also hate wearing shorts. On our last summer trip 10 years ago I wore stretchy bike shorts, but I have avoided shorts since. So, for my upcoming August trip I would like to get some dresses. I don't want to order them from a catalog or online, I want to try them on, just like the sports sandals that I will also eventually buy for this trip! So, I need store suggestions. I want cotton, comfort, and short sleeves if possible instead of exposed shoulders. I think the last part is going to be the hardest to find. A house dress type of style that doesn't look like a house dress! Is this possible? My shoulders have not seen the sun in a very long time and I am worried that they will burn even with sunscreen. (not to mention that I usually don't look good in something that shows my upper arms!) Help! I live near a number of malls, Kohl's, Target, all the typical suburban stores. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

After reading part of this thread, I was on a hunt for dresses as well - I hit the mall and looked in Sears, Old Navy, etc. I finally found some nice summer dresses in JC Penney - mine is just below the knee, fits nice but isn't too tight and doesn't look like a potato sack, and has nice little sleeves. I checked at Target and Walmart but couldn't find anything I like. Very happy with my choice and can't wait to wear it in 9 short days!!!

Thanks! I was already going to check out JC Penny for Easy Spirit shoes/sandals, so now I have even more of a reason to go. Now I just have to find the time!

I'm also not a small girl (20/22), love dresses, and have had great success with compression shorts. Underarmour bike shorts for men are slightly longer than the women's version, ending just a couple of inches above the knee. They are moisture wicking to take away sweat and keep you cool.

In addition to the Underarmour brand, WalMart and Target also have their own versions in stock as low as $10 a pair.

I'm not going to WDW this year (not yet anyway, going to try and convince the DBF to go for a F&W Festival weekend), but I am going to Utah for a week this summer and this thread is a help! I too am pooh sized and don't fare well in heat (the result of woking in an air conditioned building 52 weeks a year), so some of these tips are really going to help this summer! Thank you!

I have decided to go with dresses and skirts for this trip too since it will be very warm in September. I have bought some golf skirts with the moisture wicking shorts built in. I too am not a skinny-minnie (size 9/10) or a twenty-something (I have 4 teen/tweens) but I have decided to go for comfort over style this year. :beach:

I would like some comfortable tops to go with the skirts that are cool-ish. Any suggestions? My polos look nice but just feel so thick/heavy and I don't want to melt. :rotfl:

I am pooh sized as well, and I love skirts for the summer and the park! As long as the skirt is long enough, I have not had any problems. This year I am going for scoop neck tees and maxi skirts. Cute, cool, and comfy!

The GapFit Breathe t-shirts are amazing. They are very soft, lightweight and keep you cool. I bought 2 and I plan on going back to get some more.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the suggestion!

I wear skirts/sun dresses when I'm at WDW. I feel the need to look a little more like a girl there since I am a ranch woman and I'm in t-shirts, chaps, boots, jeans, and caps everyday.

I have found that the wrap skirts that can be found at the Yak and Yeti shop in AK are awesome. I buy a new ne every year!

For those of you who are larger chested: how do you combat the dreaded bra strap delema when picking out sun dresses? It seems like the rest of the dress fits but the top of it doesn't and the straps dont cover my bra straps...all of you who are bigger chested know that strapless bras dont work! I find myself having to settle for skirts and a tank versus some of those really cute sun dresses that the skinny Minnies wear. Any suggestions for a more Busty shape? 34 dd size 9/10.

Ugh, I know exactly what you mean... Seems like we're about the same size.

Do they really expect that everyone is going to go bra-less when they design summer dresses? :confused3

I have found a few dresses that have tank-style straps that will cover a bra, but they are few and far between. (Even then most are non-stretchy material that is waaay too tight in the chest or so low cut that 2/3 of each b00b is hanging out :sad2: )

I hope someone has some suggestions. I usually can only find maybe one dress a year that fits properly, and sometimes not even that.

I have been racking my brain about this today. I did remember my friend (also of the big busted variety) telling me about the following link. I remember the clothes being expensive, but good. Here's the link.

I, too am a 34DD and can't stand not having support so the bra is a must for the sundresses. I am a layer-er. LOL My bra, then a tank top of some kind that matches with the sundress, then the dress itself. I like wide strap tank tops, Old Navy/Gap is my favorite. The wide straps hide the bra and also keep the sundress straps from falling all the time (because even cinched up they still fall off my puny shoulders constantly, lol).

Another outfit combination I like at the parks is a short sundress or long tunic type top with cargo capris underneath. Of course the aforementioned matching tank top is on the bottom layer again, lol. Very comfy, no worries about chafing or showing my business when I get out of the rides, cool, fast drying and cute, too. :thumbsup2

Check Lands End, both online and most Sears stores have a large Lands End department. I have bought several dress from them and most importantly the clothes are all cotton, hold up well and are simple tasteful clothing.

I wear lots of skirts in Disney World, and found some little slips from J.C. Penney that have legs. I like them because they are loose, and they can be washed and hung dry every night. They offer the anti-rub benefit, but also work as a slip for lighter skirt fabrics.

I can't stand to see bra straps hanging out of clothing. Would the bras with transparent/clear straps be an option. I know you can still see that it is a strap but so much better in the visual department. I can tell you that standing behind someone in a line I would be appreciative of the fact that they wore that bra and were trying to be discrete. Maybe I am nuts. I would be willing to try one if needed, and I am a 42DD.

In the summer when the tights come off, I always wear men's boxers under my skirts.
