Hi everyone!

My Dh and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this August.

I am always the one making plans for travel, etc.

Well...in June we will be taking the family to Niagara Falls, On. Ca.
I keep hounding my Dh to think of something just for the two of us to do on our anniversary.

He is not coming up with anything..and quite frankly, I am tired of trying to think of something.

We can't afford a trip back to Disney yet, so that is out of the question.
We live in Ohio. Are there any suggestions out there?

We are going to Mid-Ohio race track with the kids on Aug 6 weekend. Our anniversary is the 18th.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone...

Thanks for the info..yes, we have been to both places.
Not sure if I want to be that far away from the kids.

It is absolutely beautiful up north.

We were at Mackinac Island a couple years ago, and my 6 year old son loved the bridge!

how about a night/weekend away. go to a nice hotel and out for a nice meal. how about hocking hills cabins? I personally would love to take off for weekend and go to N. Falls but that's just me. Even a vist to Bear Lodge in Sandusky sounds like fun.

How about just a quiet weekend away to a local bed and breakfast? I'm in Oklahoma, so other than that I am no help. Have fun making your plans. By the way our 20th is in July.

we will be celebrating our 30th this coming weekend and like you disney is out of our price range and distance, but our local (well within 45 minutes of our home) Wingate Inn has a package that we are taking it contains , a king suite ( with jacuzzi in seperate part of room and not in bathroom ) , dinner at a local rest. with 40.00 coupon, and 2 movie theater tickets. and breakfast at inn in the morning, for 135.00 ...this room normally rents for 119.00 per night just for room. So we decided to take package for one night and add the room for the second. here's the link for wingate in Ohio , might be a nice get a way weekend......

Juli! Hi there! You know what? I have been looking at the Hocking Hills sites!

I will also check out the Wingate inn.

Congrats to you Merry Poppins and mousefan!
Have a great time mousefan.

A B&B out on Put-in-Bay or Kellys? Take a winery tour, have a cold one and watch the people and day go by. Go to Cedar Point ride some rides. Take a day or two and drive along the coast lots of neat little towns and places to visit.:smooth:

We celebrate each and every anniversary at The Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg. The inn is located in the middle of a large Amish community. There are plenty of attractions in the area to see. Sue and I will be celebrating our 19th anniversary on August 10th with our 20th trip to Honey Run. We like to think of it as our annual marriage retreat.

You might enjoy a visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, although I don't know if that's appropriate for a 20th anniversary. You could also take a Lake Erie cruise on the Good Times.

Lots to see and do in Ohio. But you already know that. Have fun planning your anniversary celebration.

No ideas, jsut a congrats!!! We, too, will be celebrating our 20th this year..June 23rd. Seperatly. I will be in WDW with my Girl Scout Troop! How romantic is that?

We will celebrate our 20th on October 27. And, no, we won't be at WDW. Maybe a weekend at the ocean.

Wow! The Inn at Honey Run looks beautiful!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Lisa

Congrats on 20th
Afraid I don't have much to offer in the way of Ohio advice-we had our 20th in September of last year and I confess-we celebrated with a "cheap" trip to Hawaii (DH is a National Gaurdsman-his annual training was in Hawaii so he was already there , i just joined him later and we staid in military housing) But our childern are older-and leaving them not a big deal.
The advice I would give you is celebrate and don't wait for a better time-I am so glad we took that trip as DH is leaving the US for a year deployment tomorrow and it will be our 22nd before we get the chance to celebrate again.

All suggestions so far are great! I have another beautiful and quite retreat place to offer to the mix.
Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark OH is a place I might consider going for that sort of celebration. I went there last year in June for a business meeting and it is beautiful tucked away unto itself.

DH and I will be celebrating our 27th the end of April, and we still speak of the time he "treated" me to a "fine dining" experience. He met me at the door after I was getting home from work with his best suit and escorted me to sit in a chair for a before dinner toast. Then dinner was served using our best dinner ware. I felt like a princess. We dined to my surprise on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I cannot tell you how often we fondly remember that time. (The choice was not because of any particular financial need at the time. It was just that is was so simple, and to us it was spectacular!)

My point, anything can make it special. If you have a place to send the young 'uns for an overnight or weekend, you may think to stay home take a walk in the park or do whatever.

Just remember how much you love each other and that you are there for each other.

DH had quad bypass in October, the story of the discovery of need is for another time. Basically, it is miraculous that he is here at all. So ours will be an extra special celebration, not necessarily via a particular place. Just that we are together. We haven't decided yet as to the particulars of celebration.

Tiger Lily, How sweet about the peanut butter & jelly! I'm so sorry your DH had the trouble back in Oct. with his heart. I will keep him in my prayers!

As a 21+years married - I had to laugh when you said you always made the plans and you were hounding your DH to make some plans for this anniversary!! FAT CHANCE!!! After 20 years you should know better!:p I say this as someone who had the same conversations with MY DH before our 20th!! We ended up going to Las Vegas - and I of course made all the plans - BUT - he did call the hotel (The Venetien) and make our dinner reservations and that was a HUGE step for him. He also mentioned to a client who lives in Las Vegas that we were coming for our anniversary and scored us 2 free tickets to see "O". So that made up for a LOT of him not planning.

And let's face it - I love the planning almost as much as the trip.

Enjoy your anniversary, whatever you do!

Since you're in Ohio and I'm in South Carolina, I don't really have any suggestions. But congratulations!! DH and I celebrated 20th anniversary last year with a 9-day trip through Orlando and then down the gulf side of Florida, through the Everglades and back up the Atlantic side of Florida. We spent one or two nights in various places along the way. It was very fun and we never got bored and didn't have one argument the whole time. We had never been a such a long trip just the two of us since our honeymoon and we were pleasantly surprised at what fun we had!!!!!
