Could you please give me a sample -

I was going to take a hot pot so I can boil water for oatmeal- but I was wondering if any vetran Disney Guest could offer some more suggestions other than Pop Tarts.

This is the one-in-a childhood trip for my kids and I was to save $$ on breakfast so they can each get a good souvineer.

We also figured skimp early in the trip and if we've done a good job - loosen up a bit at the end.

any suggestions are appreciated!

For breakfast in the room, I like to keep it simple. We bring poptarts, breakfast bars, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. When my kids were really little, they loved instant grits! For grits or oatmeal, you can use the microwave in the food court (there's also a toaster too!)

We also bring softdrinks and snacks for the room, which work out great when we take our midday break!

If you are driving down, just bring a small ice chest with you, and it willl keep milk and stuff cold! When we have flown down, I would buy a small milk from the food court and use the ice bucket in the room to keep the milk cold (just add a little ice from the ice machine!)

Enjoy your trip!

Not sure if you are driving down or not. but if you are I thought I would mention those coolers that came out that advertise that they keep ice up to 5 days.. They arent lying either!! We bought one this year and brought it camping.. we had that cooler plus our other ones.. It was high 90 degree weather and the ice never melted the whole weekend!! Just thought Id mention if so if you are driving you might pick one up to use in the room because then you will have ice and cold stuff for at least 5 days and then just replenish the ice after that...

If i drive, I usually bring my mickey waffle maker. It just feels like a special breakfast each time.

Good Luck!

We usually stay in a suite or condo with a kitchen which makes things easier, but what we have works in a regular room too. Juice, cereal with milk, pop-tarts, yogurt, granola bars - that's pretty much it for us for breakfast. All I eat for breakfast at home is juice and cereal. Don't need anything more than that on vacation. This saves a TON of money compared to going out to eat. Even if you hit a cheap offsite buffet, its still $4/person plus tax. Breakfast in the room costs about $1-2 for all 3 of us.

we bring muffins and their favorite cereal. I'll bring disposable bowls and spoons for them. I usually buy a small milk at the gift store for .99 since my son likes his dry. we rarely do a breakfast unless its a character one.

Eating breakfast in the room is a really big money saver. We drove down and brought a cooler. We stopped at Publix near Disney and bought milk, poptarts, cereal bars and yogurt. We also bought bottled water and soft drinks. Also had some snacks that we brought down. That keeps you from buying over priced snack foods at the gas stations. If the weather is nice, pack a picnic lunch to have on the way down at one of the rest stops.

Appreciate all the advice - definitely going to check out one of those coolers!

Any clue where to purchase one or what the name brand/price is?

Thanks again!!!

I bring bagel bread (it flys well, since it's hard) and toast it in the food court, hot cereal (and paper bowls) and use the hot tea water in the food court, the new waffles that don't need to be kept frozen, and again toast them in the food court (or English muffins). Cooking in the food court, gets our grands up and ready, we all have a place to sit down, no crumbs on the floor and bedding to worry about, and no one has to smell our food cooking in the rooms. It's a win win situation...and there is so much more you can eat with a microwave and toaster. I love that Disney has these items for our use in the food courts.

I bought the mini boxes of cereal, threw them in my carryon. I was lucky, they were on sale the week before I left. And Hostess sells mini muffins-blueberry, chocolate chip--that are in individual packets.

If you're staying at a Disney moderate hotel, I've heard that they are putting in refrigerators--so you can keep milk, juice, water, etc. in there and they won't spoil.

I think it's a good idea to try not to spend in the beginning of your trip. Then you can reward yourself!

Ours is Coleman and I bought it at Walmart for $19.99 I believe.. Not sure of the exact price but it was less than $20 and it has wheels, so that makes it even better.. Ive seen them everywhere.. Academy, Target, Sams.. I thought I saw some still at Walmart recently but they are now in the back where the camping stuff is.. They are wonderful! When we went camping we brought our other coolers too and every day we had to put new ice in those coolers twice a day and we camped for 4 days I think it was .... we never changed the ice in that one cooler.. It definitely saves money and mess! We plan on buying a few more before going camping next year and then will get rid of the other ones..

You can use hot water from the coffeemaker for hot cereal, grits or oatmeal. We also brought the Hostess mini muffins, bkfast bars, donuts, poptarts, cold cereal, and banana nut bread. Not the healthiest of fare, but we were on vacation and it's cheaper than paying Disney breakfast. Plus we ate on the go a lot so we could get to the parks early.
We brought a regular cooler and kept milk, sodas, OJ and bottled water cold by using ice from the vending machines.

If you're flying you can buy a styrofoam cooler in Orlando and change the ice twice a day. We bought cereal, pop-tarts, english muffins, bagels, cream cheese, milk and OJ at the Publix. We also bought water, wine and beer ;), microwave popcorn, bread and peanut butter and jelly. You might even be able to do instant oatmeal using the hot water for tea in the food court.

Instead of paper bowls, we bought the hard plastic Ziplock bowls and square containers with lids and used the plastic cutlery from the food court. The square containers held a PB&J sandwich or two for my daughter so they wouldn't get squished in the backpack in the parks.

We bring the paper bowls, for the hot cereal (the heavy duty ones), so we won't have to bring it back to the room to wash it. We bring our own cutlery/napkins, unless we are buying food in the foodcourt. I agree the ziplock or glad bowls are great for PB & J. Being I'm the grandma, I put some PB and a square of hershey's chocolate on toasted bread, and by the time we eat, the FL sun has it all melted together. Saves having to buy sweets, since they think that is a real treat.

I usually will buy some little fruit cups and applesauce cups and spoons and we will have those and a poptart or muffin or donut with a juice box for a quick breakfast in the room.

when we went in April- with 2 DD's age 6 & 7...

we had a fridge in our room- at ASMovies- a cooler/fridge we brought with us, since we drove.

We stopped at publix, and got a 1/2 gallon milk.

we had breakfast in the room every morning. Only the DD's eat breakfast, DH and I do not

they had cereal most days- but also had poptarts, donuts etc.

We also had snack food granola bars, fruit snacks, grapes, apples etc.. for either late night snacks or afternoons we spent by the pool.

When we go again- I will NOT bring as much food with me, it just wasnt eaten, and I repacked it and drove it all back to vermont.

I might be the minority here, since this is a budget board but I wudnt do this on a vacation to Maine, so I'm not doing it again to WDW.

You may think I'm crazy, but if you bring an electric skillet you can then make scrambled eggs, pancakes, brown and serve sausage, ready to serve bacon, etc. etc. etc. really quick and easily. I just buy the pancake mix that needs water. A little different than the usual cereal and poptarts. (Of course we do that too). That also gives you the option for a quick dinner if you need to..like hamburger helper.

Just thought I'd add that we brought our toaster oven (Black and Dekker brand) with us on our first stay onsite. It turned out to be a wonderful addition. My son insists on his pancakes or waffles in the morning and that gets expensive. So we just brought along some frozen ones and toasted them in the oven. It was compact enough not to be difficult to transport and we used it to toast bread and warm up leftovers too. Thinking about doing that again this trip in June 2005. It saves money!

I hope the cooking in the rooms is a joke. Anything past using the coffee maker to provide hot water for oatmeal, hot chocolate or tea, or grits sounds awful.

Anyway, I suggest the little pouches of the fruit and granola tid bits, some come with yogurt icing, some plain. The milk and cereal bars, string cheese sticks, croissants purchased from the grocery store, Small containers of OJ(I think Tropicana is even packaged so it doesn't have to be chilled until opened) Costco has chocolate milk bottles-single serving with straw attached that are also not refrigerated until opened. You can also purchase nice, bakery style muffins so even a breakfast in is a nice treat.

Just please don't "cook" in your room. One's delicious room cooked dinner is another's nausiating smell...not to mention everyone's fire hazard.

I jusct wanted to post I tip that I do.

Instead of always eating in the room, many mornings I would split a meal (Adult Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, Homefries, bacon and get a extra side of bacon) with my 2 6yo boys. I would bring along a couple of slices of bread I brought at the store, as well as a piece of fruit (or apple sauce etc). I tell you for under $10 the three of us ate like kings. Everyone gets 2 slices of bacon, eggs, toast, fruit, and a small amount of home fries. I did the refillable cup at POR so we were set in the mornings doing this.

A few mornings we had ceral and toast I brought, or even PB/J (I bring my own little jelly packs). Also have brought Bagels and CC, and Yogurt, ceral bars, mini muffins. But I thought the loaf of bread was the best way to stretch the dollars (2sl are $1 at POR). I do not do anything hot in the room, but would highly suggest using the food court too.
