For those that do laundry while at Disney

I bought a small box of Purex powdered detergent at Dollar Tree and packed it in my checked bag. I did put it in a ziploc, just in case. I brought the whole box because I was paranoid that they would find baggies of unidentified white powder in my bag and freak out! :) I also threw some dryer sheets in with my clothes, but I ended up buying a box of two for a dollar in the laundry room. It was two dollars per load (at Wilderness Lodge) for the washers and the same for the dryers, although we did have to run the dryer twice to get the clothes dry. It was a lifesaver to do laundry while we were there, as we didn't have to pack nearly as many clothes. I just used our large suitcase for the dirty laundry and then put the clean laundry back into the ziploc bags I had packed them in originally.

We've always brought small baggies of powered soap to WDW with us, but last trip we decided to get smart, or so we thought. We purchased the Owner's Locker to keep our WDW stuff in in between visits, and bought a large box of Gain to keep in there too. We checked our luggage at the ticketing counter, made it to xray screening, and they paged for a member of our party to go back to ticketing. Ooops, as it turns out, you can't take a box of Gain. They didn't give us any details, jsut that we couldn't take it. Oh well. TSA got a free box of laundry soap that day!

Sooooo....to answer your question, bring your own soap in small quanities, take dryer sheets too, and a tide stain stick pen and you're all set!

Has anyone used the "laundry service" at any of the hotels? We are staying at the WL and I would love to pack less and wash while we're there but hate the thought of having to waste time doing laundry!:laundy: Also...what is the cost of this service? TIA:flower3:

We do laundry. I just scoop out individual loads of dry detergent into ziploc baggies. I then put all of them into a gallon size bag. I use the freezer ones - they are heavier. We have not had any trouble with detergent in our checked bags. I tuck dryer sheets all over our suitcases to keep things smelling fresh. I carry our clothes to and from the laundry in pillowcases (disney designs - white for white clothes, dark colored one and a light colored one. We use them for many other things on our trip - holding kids toys, stuffing with a blanket for a pillow, sit on during shows and parades, etc.) We throw them right in the washer/dryer with the load of clothes and then they are clean and ready for taking the dry clothes back to the room. We usually do laundry in the afternoon when the kids swim, early morning while getting ready or late at night when getting ready for bed.

You could also pack a tiny Travel detergent in your luggage just double ziploc it. I'm thinking of doing this for next time so i can pack less and buy more.

My mom and I did laundry on the night before we left, just so we wouldn't have to do it when we got home. It was $2 wash, $2 dry. One or two of the heavier items (a pair of my pajama pants) did not dry fully, but it wasn't worth another $2. For laundry soap, my mom was going to buy the stuff they had in boxes on sale (overpriced, of course) but a father who was there doing laundry (yes, a FATHER ) said they bought a whole jug of detergent and told her to use some because they wouldn't use it all. Disney magic! :thumbsup2

We stayed for two weeks in 2005 at VWL and I stupidly tried to bring some liquid soap with me from home. I had it in a rubbermaid sports bottle and then a large ziploc. When we got our luggage at MCO the container and the ziploc had come open due to pressure and the clothes on that end of the suitcase were soaked. My DH does not let me live it down! I have very sensitive skin and can not use Tide, era, etc....only certain laundry soaps do not bother me. We now spend three dollars for soap at the store and leave the rest of the container for the next person or mousekeeping.

My DH always does our laundry on vacation. Heck, he does 95% of the laundry at home! :confused3

I think someone else mentioned it, but they dryers don't always get everything dry on the first time. We usually end up hanging some things around the room to finish drying at the resort.

I buy the Tide envelopes at Target or Bed,Bath & Beyond to take on a short trip. I'd really rather do laundry than pack a million things.

When we go for our big trip in January where we stay in a GV at OKW, I just buy a bottle of soap when we do the grocery shopping because there are 8 people who stay in th eunit and everyone does laundry.

I bought powdered detergent and then measured it in to baggies. I would double bag it and put it in with my checked luggage. I also put a few dryer sheets in a baggie too. Worked great! Oh and DH did the laundry and also said the dryers were awful. Took forever to dry the clothes.

I bought single load packs of tide and downy at target for 99 cent each. I bought three each. we are staying at a room with a washer/dryer in it so i will definately be using them.

Head on over to the Freebies thread. They very often have links to free samples of laundry detergent. The price is right. They come in single-load pouches. No measuring or worrying about spilling...just make sure you have something to open those hermetically sealed pouches! Anyway, pack a couple of dryer sheets, get your quarters, you'll be good to go.

I also bring a pop-up laundry hamper to put our dirty stuff in. Nothing worse than having your plastic bag rip on the way to the laundry room.

sheets of fabric softener.

Ok thanks. I was thinking it was something for the clothes dryer and I thought that was weird.

Last vacation I used Laundromat near pools at night after a long day at a park and just paid for detergent, it was hot and summer so I hang up clothes to dry in hotel room, spread accross table and chairs. They were dry next morning.

I brought along the individual packets of Tide detergent that I got in the travel sized section of Target. I also put fabric softener sheets in a baggie. I also used the fabric sheets to put into my dirty clothes bag as well as my suitcase to keep it smelling fresh.

AI bought dryer sheets and at Target they have small containers of all at the travel section that do 2 loads each and they were around a dollar.

We bought the travel size bottle that does 2 loads. I don't know why I didn't think to bring dryer sheets, so we bought those for a dollar I think. The cost for each load = FREE, DVC perk. AKL has a DVC laundry room for the studios or any other DVC member.
