I am coming up on my 1 year wedding anniversary :goodvibes and trying to think of things to do or get for my husband but I would love to hear if any of you did anything special or bought for your first year being married? :)

I bought him a nice titanium watch, specifically choosing titanium because it was the same metal as his wedding ring.

We went on a fun day trip to an amusement park as our 1st anniversary celebration. We'd gone to WDW for our honeymoon, so it only seemed appropriate. :)

Well my husband was deployed our first year and I sent him a card that said something to the affect of well know what newlyweds do on their annversairy and inside it said too bad we won't be:rotfl:

Does your husband have an office or a desk for his private use? A nice digital frame loaded with pictures would be sweet.

We went to WDW to celebrate :)

We had dinner and then ate some of our wedding cake that had been in my mom's freezer for most of the year. It was soooo gross, but it was really fun, and I will remember the look on DH's face forever.

(Then we went to disney world)...

We have talked about seeing different countries around the world, so for each anniversary we don't exchange gift, we put that money in our "world trip" saving account. Then we pick a different country food to eat at. First year was German, Second was Chinese, Third year was American, and for our forth we will be on the Disney Magic so we are eating at Palo. I believe that is Italy. But this way it gets us both off the hook for having to figure out what to get each other. Also it doesn't help that our anniversary is Aug 22 and our b-days are Aug 13 and Aug 31.

DH was deployed for our 1st anniversary, so our tradition started with #2.

We don't buy gifts. We go out for what we call an "dining experience." It started off as a meal would could only afford once a year (or quite frankly couldn't even afford it then...)

We've dined on the beach with a waiter trudging through the sand to serve us, on a train, in a swanky steak house with a separate dessert room, a in an open-hearth 1600's house, at the top of a mountain overlooking 7 glaciers, and in more 'normal' locations that we simply could only afford if we were going to splurge. It is also interesting what our idea of a 'splurge' is now compared to our 2nd anniversary!

After 13 years, I know I would not be able to tell you what 'things' we would have gotten for eachother all those years, but I can tell you where all of our dinners have been.

Our 18th anniversary (5 years from now) will be at the Chef's Table at Victoria & Alberts. It will also be my 40th birthday, so I told DH he has 5 years to figure out how to make it happen. (yeah, got married on my birthday, see deployment reference above)

For our 1st we had just returned from a trip to Disney the day before. My friend got married that same day, so we made it back in time for the reception. Then the next day (our actual anniversary) we had tickets to the Phillies game because they were playing the Red Sox. That evening when we got home from the game we had our disgusting wedding cake that had been in various freezers through out the year due to various moves (us included). It was gross :scared1:

We honestly don't make a big deal of our anniversary (usually just dinner and a movie and no gifts) but next year for our 5th we are planning on going to Vegas :cool1:

My MIL paid for us to go away for a weekend and spend the night in a hotel. We drank a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne that had been a wedding gift. We ate our top layer or wedding cake, and ours was surprisingly good.

We had a nice dinner out, somewhere special. Then we came home, ate our wedding cake. It was delicious! My MIL saved it for us and she wrapped it REALLY well.

While we ate our cake and had champagne, we watched our wedding video.
It was a very nice night.

I got him a watch, and he got me a precious moments. I don't collect them or anything, but he liked the sentiment. It was two angels sitting on a cloud and the title said something about the two of us being in this together.

My DH gave me a flag that flew over the capitol building in DC on the day we were married. It means the most to me.

We were living in California at the time, and went away and stayed at a bed and breakfast on the beach in the Cambria area. It was really nice and romantic.

For my first aniv we celebrated the 1 month birthday of our DS. We didn't have much money since I was out of work but we did go out to dinner and did not have the top of the wedding cake. My mom had it in deep freeze but had a fire in her dryer several months earlier and didn't realize until it was too late that the fire dept had unplugged her freezer.

We purchased a bedroom set the first year and called it an anniversary present. We pretty much agreed to do that for the first several years so we could furnish the house. Now it's pretty much anything goes. Next year will be our 15th anniversary. I'd love to surprise DH with a trip to Hawaii (just the 2 of us).

We spent ours at a Comics convention in San Deigo. We tend to do more for the anniversary of the day we started dating than our wedding anniversary. I guess 12 years of dating prior to marriage will do that to you. We usually go out for a nice lunch and some shopping. Nothing too outrageous.

Oh, and our wedding cake didn't make it past the first month! We pulled that sucker out and ate it on our first month anniversary. I'd heard too many horror stories about finding a box of green fuzz instead of a cake. And ours was waaaay too tasty to suffer that sort of an ending.
