What resources did you use to do so? We are planning a 2010 Christmas trip, and, although we will use TGM, I would appreciate any other recommendations as to how to plan for the insanity. Thanks in advance. :goodvibes

I would check out Allears.net, The Unofficial Guide to WDW and of course the DisBoards. I go to the nonDVC section and see about holiday happenings.

We will be there next Christmas also.

We go to WDW often though, so we take a different approach when going at a super busy time like Christmas or spring break. Our approach is to focus our efforts on the special holiday things - like the decorations at all the resorts, the Candlelight Processional, the parades & fireworks, a few special meals, etc. When we do go to the parks, we go early and get fast passes. We avoid EMH days all together because we've found those parks to be the most insane.

We live in WI but when we do go for Christmas, we drive so we have our car (or flying and renting a car would be an option too). That way, we can get groceries and enjoy spend more time at our resort (we're DVC members) and we can drive to the other resorts easily to enjoy the decorations and special festivities. Also buses are crazy busy at that time of year, so it is nice to just jump in your car and get to where you want to go, especially at the end of the day when you're exhausted.

We also plan one special event that is part of our Christmas celebration - like a Wishes or Illuminations cruise, a tour or 1900 Park Fare for Christmas dinner, etc. It becomes one of our family's "gifts" for Christmas.

One other thing we've done at both Christmas and Easter is to bring small bags (or at Easter, plastic Easter eggs) with wrapped candy treats for the CM's working on those holidays. We've given them to basically everyone we encounter working from rental car attendants to CM's cleaning the bathrooms, etc. Once in awhile, we're told they cannot accept it, but 95% of the time, the CM's or other workers are thrilled to be given something special. It truly makes us feel like we're helping to make their holiday a little nicer too. Plus, giving big tips or gifts to servers and mousekeepers on holidays makes you feel good too and it is always appreciated.

Just go with the mindset that you may not ride every ride (or even want to) but you will enjoy the special events for the holiday season and remember to have patience with others and do nice things for those that have to work so you can have a great vacation on a holiday.
