What does it take to get tagged around here? It seems that the tag fairy has been very busy lately. I've seen a lot of threads with posters thanking the tag fairy for their new tags. Most of the people with new tags already have tags. I figured I'd have a tag by the time I got to 1000 posts, but still nothing. Any insight from those blessed with tags?

I dont know, I guess posting in the right thread at the right time...sorry cant help much :confused3

It wasn't a big deal to me before, but it was fun when it happened. So I wasn't trying whatsoever. It's interesting to see what that person noticed about things I said :rotfl2:

As you can see, I've been posting for 5 years (though not a tremendous amount) I received both of my tags within probably 2 weeks.

So my advice is not to sweat it. It's not supposed to be something you try for, IMO. If you do, the surprise factor is not there.

You just have to hope you saying something memorable at the same time a tag fairy is watching.

Mine came at a time when alot of people were getting tagged so I had said I have 2 missions on the dis...get fantasy football and get tagged....well there is my tag

Don't plan it - just post and enjoy your time while doing it.

I think the tag fairy has favorites and that is just the way it goes. Nothing you can do about it.

I don't know about other DISers, but for me it was replying to a thread about things that drove me  . Now my tag reminds me of the song from MNSSHP that I couldn't get out of my head, every time I see it on my posts. So I am perpetually hearing that tune forever :rotfl2:

I never gave much thought to the Tag Fairy. My tags appeared on the same day after something I'd posted in a "getting to know you" type thread.

I don't think there's anything special you need to do. I think it's just a matter of the tag fairy picking up on something on a particular day. Just sheer luck.

I always thought it was about sense of humor, wit and the way you respond to posts. My grammer and wording is horrible.
i think The Tag Fairy just took pity on me both times!

I don't know about the "tag Fairy" around here, but I moderate a message board about something completely unrelated, and I "tag" people there. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Some posters with thousands of posts who have been around for four years haven't been tagged, others with just a few posts have.

If something strikes me as funny, I use it. I don't tag those who beg, plead, grovel and make a fuss about it. The entire idea is a joyous, spontaneous thing, not a clique or a popularity contest.

You just have to be witty and droll--just kidding! :rotfl2:

It will happen when you least expect it and it will be something you really didn't think "tag-worthy" at the time. I've had these ones for quite a while. The Tag Fairy must have liked John Malkovich at one point--I used to have a tag that had his name in it but then I got these ones instead. It's fun and surprising but not something I really expected.

Just wait--your turn will come!

DD StitchfansJr recently joined and often asks me about getting a tag. Like I told her one day when she doesn't expect it poof a tag will be born. Just have fun and post to whatever thread interests you and maybe it will catch the Tag Fairies eye. :teeth:

That is exactly how the Tag Fairy works here too :) .

There is really no rhyme or reason to how it happens. The Tag Fairy might be flying by one night, stops in to read a few posts, gets a giggle out of something someone said and *bink* a tag is born.

It has nothing to do with post count, how long you have been here or what your name is. You just never know what the Tag Fairy might read that tickles their fancy.

I can tell you though, after having known all of the Tag Fairies buzzing around the DIS, that Tag Fairies aren't moved, swayed or do they feel guilty about whining about not getting a tag - if anything, it hurts your chance over helping it.

And if anything will stop a tagging frenzy, it's a bunch of posts where people are upset over not being tagged.

Look at it like this - tagging is not a "right" on the DIS, it's not even a privilege.. consider it just random acts of kindness that are occasionally and randomly sprinkled throughout the boards. It's like having the guy in front of you at a toll booth paying your toll for you. Sure, its nice when they do it and sometimes it really makes your day - but it can't always happen to everyone at once all the time and truthfully, it just really feels a lot better and means a lot more when it is totally unexpected and not demanded or begged for.

Mine was a sympathy tag. I am shy and if you notice I don't really post a whole lot. Besides I am very unfunny and nothing interesting to say. Sometimes when I post it is like I am the Disney ghost, no one can see me. :)

I don't think there really is a rhyme or reason to it. I got mine back before Christmas, when I had barely begun posting (I was registered long before I started posting). Now I babble a lot & haven't seen the TF at all. :rotfl2:

I just wish I could get rid of the Mouseketeer designation, but it's stuck unless I want to delete the tag as well. :(

I see you there!

If you post this on the tech board, I'm sure one of the tech mods will be able to help you get rid of Mouseketeer without losing your tag

I came back to this thread from the Blonde thread, to this suggestion that makes total sense, if I had thought about it. Guess I'm more blonde than I thought. :lmao:

Thanks! :goodvibes

I kept posting stuff and saying 'this would be a great tag' :lmao:

And then the tag fairies pulled something obscure and tagged me with it :goodvibes

For some reason, I was recently dumped on by the alleged "Tag Fairy" in a "fly-by" attack. If they thought that was funny, they should look up the definition of contumacious. That should have them ROTF for hours.

BTW, tags are highly overrated and should be handled only by professionals.
