Thank God for "Marketing" common sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and thank Walt for those of you who stood by me! ;)

Well since I saved around $550 I am very glad that you were right and I was wrong. :p

Never take anything you read on forums seriously Rob, you did a very good job of trying to explain the principles of marketing, but when you have Disney $$ in your eyes it's just hard to listen.

And as you stated the relocation of POFQ guests did have an affect in that certain room categories at certain resorts were not available to discount.

I am interested in your take on why Garden view rooms at the Polynesian were discounted more than rooms at the YC/BC/BW, as I have never seen this happen.

Any thoughts?

Hi I am curious... the 550.00 you saved, do you take into account the higher price you pay for the AP as opposed to hoppers?

I mean what if it cost your family 550.00 more to buy the annual passes? then you would break even?

>>^..^<<

And don't forget to cost of repeat vacations! That's what having an AP does!! It makes you go back to WDW as many times as you possibly can before the year is up. :)

??? I saw the Poly at less then the BW/YC/BC last year on my honeymoon?!?

The $199 rate is fairly common for the POLY... (not that there's anything WRONG with that! ;) )

We are staying 11 nights this trip. We go several times/year. We have been AP holders for years and would have bought them even if there were no AP room discounts.

Does that answer your question?

Sammie .........isn't there some rehab going on at the Poly right now in some of the longhouses? Maybe that is why...... plus that resort is just more "dated" than the Epcot resorts

No one called you a fool but I do seem to remember you saying something about starting a thread which never seemed to appear. ;)

Did we miss it? LOL! :p

...I still bet the rates will be in by 3/28! If not -- I'll start a call me a moron link. (I'm sure my student are right now during spring break anyway LOL ROF). That's OK, I'm working on their next exam right now!

Yeah - its nice to see you take credit for something that has been common practice for several years now :)

I don't recall ever calling you a fool, and I never said that there wouldn't be rates - only a chance based on availability that there might not be.

I'm glad for everyone that they came out - I just hoped everyone might relax a little - as to when they would be released or understand if there was not a need for them given occupancy.

From the marketing point of view, it does appear they have changed the way they market AP rates this year vs. last year. Last year they were announced fairly far in advance. This year on April 21 beginning April 28. So unless you are a board reader or someone who checks a lot you might not find out. (I mean except for idiots like me, most people plan these vacations months or YEARS in advance) Maybe Disney is hoping for a bump in last minute bookings from AP holders getting "one more use".

A whole family does not need to have the APs, only one person needs one to get the AP rates

Kinda hoped that had been forgotten. :) I mean ... uhhhh .... it was a keystroke error - I hit a 3 and was trying to hit a 4. :) There was a rather nasty poster who did call me a fool, but he is dead to me now. :)

Nice of you to not take credit for being wrong :) - a friend of Bill Clinton are you. LOL :)

Really MP - I'm not taking credit - it had to happen and is common practice. My post is toung and cheek! I am surprised how late the release is. I think the company may have been hedging to see what they could get out of June. Fascinating!

I will point out that some of the dates in may, june and july are completely booked (or held) at the swan and dolphin. Starwood in darn good at the hotel game. Disney could probably learn a few things about strategy (markdowns & captive conventioners) from those folks and that may be the only reason they allow SPG to continue to own those hotels. Nice to have a benchmark!:smooth:

I'm not sure how you are right and I was wrong, but whatever floats your boat?

I never said that there wouldn't be AP rates - in fact stated in a few threads that I thought there would be - just when they would be published was where my discrepancy came in, but whatever, like I said I'm really happy for everyone who was waiting.

Just like a true Bama fan to rewrite history!

I would guess this is a logistics management issue caused by the existing travel environment.

Disney wants more occupancy at the Poly for some cost based reason.

The Poly carries a ton of intangibles for people - past vacations, memories, nearness to the parks, etc. That allows Disney to price higher as Disney uses market based value pricing (they dig into consumer behavior and psychographics) rather than internal cost plus profit/margin. The Epcot resorts are still building their intangibles. I'm willing to bet it is cheaper to run the Poly (manpower, transportation, etc) and so they have dropped the rate to make sure the majority fill it rather than BC/YC where I also have heard there will be renovations.

As for the environment ... I will gamble that one of the major market segments that the Poly targets is young upper middle class couples with children 7-8 and under. The slower pace and nearness to the monorail for MK and E are easy/perfect for these families. I would bet that Iraq, terrorism, SARS, and the economy are making these young families consider other options leaving a big gap in capacity.

Then again - maybe it is a mistake that made it to print! ;)

Actually we're sending off a group of folks from the DIS on a Drinking Around the World in a couple of weeks - although we have to bow out early to catch our plane.

You could have at least posted a link to a better picture. The Rose & Crown is our last stop.
