For those of you that use debit instead of credit

I have never been charged a fee to use my debit card. I wouldn't use it if I was!

From previous threads on the Dis, it sounds like fraud can cause problems, depending on the bank involved. Some banks are great and will credit the disputed amount while under investigation, others will say "too bad so sad" and leave you hanging. Sometimes overdraft fees and bounced check fees occur before the fraud is discovered as well, and not everyone has luck getting those waived.

Before switching to using debit as your primary source of paying for things, I would go to you bank and sit down with a manager, and find out exactly what would happen if there is fraud. If it sounds like they won't help you, you can either figure out another way to pay for purchases or switch to a bank with better fraud protection on debit transactions.

by bank of americas rules they will only hold the card holder liable for up tp 50 dollars on fraudula I have always hadem immediately refund and disputed amount and then investigate an then reconle the account.

I use my Debit card all the time. It is cheaper than buying checks and easier to manage my money when I don't use my credit card. It sounds like it depends on your financial instituion if you are charged fees or have restrictions. I know personally that I can't charge more than $500.00/day on my card. Which is fine with me. Also, most car rental companies and some hotels will not let you pay them with a debit card only cash or credit.
Any merchandise that I have returned has usually been credited back to my account or rarely cash is given back to me. No problems here!
