For those of you that have used...

It's "Horses for courses" I suppose. I carried both a Gorilla SLR-Zoom and a Velbon 347GB one evening at MK. The Gorilla was really nice when I wanted a very low angle photo of Cindy's castle, I wrapped it around a fence railing at almost ground level and got this:

Later that evening I used the tripod at full height to photograph Wishes. The Gorilla would have been worthless, there were no convenient trashcans nearby.

A standard tripod is probably more versatile but there are times when the Gorilla is the only answer. Speaking of answers, mine isn't much of one, is it? ;)

I travel with young children so carrying and using a traditional tripod doesn't work too well for me.

I use the SLR gorilla pod and found that it helps me get a steadier night shot even if I just use if for an extra handhold:

I did use the railing for this shot of the teacups:

To be fair, a mid-to-high-level tripod will be able to mount your camera upside-down, allowing you to take the very low-level shots. Or, spread the legs wide in order to get nice and low. I think that the only time the Gorillapod will beat a tripod is if you're shooting higher than the tripod can reach. That being said, a Gorillapod is far smaller, quicker to set up, cheaper, and lighter than a decent tripod setup, and you can't discount the importance of that at a Disney park!
