For those of us watching hurricane Frances...

I also went to Walmart today. Same thing as posted before. No C or D batteries available. People were buying a lot of tarps. I bought 3. I hope I don't need them because I haven't the foggiest idea how to put them up. There were no generators or camp stoves available. I drove past Lowes. No way I was going to even try to get into that store. Yes, I'm worried, but there is nothing I can do about it. I have nothing to put over the windows and I can't see me lifting large sheets of plywood into place even if I had some. A day late and a dollar short. I plan on getting estimates for hurricane shutters once this is over. No way they can deliver at this late date. I heard a program today saying that the weather patterns are changing and that we should expect more of this in the future. Great! No one in my neighborhood is doing anything to prepare!

So, I'm going to shut all the doors to the rooms in my house. I'm boarding my pets and we are going to wait out the storm with Disney. We will be checking into the AKL on Friday and checking out on Monday. I just feel that a building like that has got to be more secure than my little house. Don't get me wrong, my house was built to hurricane code, but even so. I will just feel better someplace with other people, especially with DD. I'm hoping being at Disney will take our minds off of the constant drone we are hearing on the hurricane.

Good luck to all of my fellow Floridians. Let this be the last for this year!!!!!!!

This hurricane really stinks:mad:

Publix- Crowded. Had water still. Canned goods disappearing fast. No D batteries but plenty of others.
Target- No D batteries. Plenty of others. Flashlights all gone except the tiny ones. In the camping aisle- all lanterns and camp stoves are gone. There was one toilet left.

I have everything I need except window coverings:eek: And it's too late for that.

Don't forget to get your charcoal or even propane for your grills. If you have an ACE hardware or Radio Shack in your area, they will have some supplies; maybe at least some batteries. The water is a great idea too! How long was Port Charlotte w/o water? Also, Dollar General, Fred's Dollar Store, and those type places carry some canned goods so that may be an option if you really need to stock up before the storm.

Here's my attempt at posting the latest tracking map. I don't know what town that is but it sure looks to be around Port Canaveral or so. I guess we're gonna be OK over here on the west coast of FL , right?

My local news said Daytona Beach. But of course, everyone in the projected areas take caution!!!!

Oh.....My.....Goodness! Look at the 11pm update.. I guess it's shifted quite a bit west. What town is it making landfall in now? I haven't been watching the news but I'm curious as to how much they expect the gulf coast to be affected and what category it will be when it makes landfall. Anybody know?

LOLOLOL We had to eat 150 bars of ice-cream during Charley! Our neighbor had to empty his vending machine. What a treat. Calories don't count during hurricanes ;)

From the looks of it, It will be coming into Brevard County. We live in the center, kinda, well more in South Brevard. But the eye on this thing is 22 miles wide... yikes!! Everyone prepare and pray we are gonna need it!

I donot know if it is the same for everywhere else but I have noticed the weather reporters down here are being extra careful not to say where they even guess that the hurricane will come ashore. I guess after Charley they do not want to be wrong. Francis is so much bigger than Charley and our weather guy did commit to that Francis is not going to sea and turning away from us. Lets all say it together E-Vac_U- A-Tion. My Dh is at Walmart now at 11:30pm because he thought that it might not be so crazy. I got some supplies today but he is a manly man who likes to buy tools and supplies himself :0)

Good luck everyone!

I hope you all stay safe. I have family on the ocean in NCarloinasowe are watching this for them Hope it misses everyone.

was a mad house. We just got home from Walmart and most everything was gone or pretty close to being gone. PB/Jelly, breads, water, cookies, dry snacks, etc. And beer, of all things beer...
They reported police being called to the Home Depot here in Palm Bay this afternoon.
We haven't bought anything yet since we woudl evac with our clients at our jobs and that would be provided, thank god, one less thing to panic over. God Bless everyone and stay safe and YES please evac if asked to....
Any other Brevard Diser's?
We went to Universal today for dinner and a few rides and on the way home say Brevard tags going down 528 with plywood stacked on their roofs...:earseek:

Yes, I noticed that too. Have you been watching Don Noe on Channel 10? They just keep saying that we have to keep watching and won't know more for another day or so.

Anyway we look at it, our weather is going to be bad. :( I just hope that two HUGE black olive trees that we have in our front yard don't fall on the house.

I posted this map last night, on another Frances thread. It shows the wind field of this gigantic storm. A good portion of the Florida peninsula will likely be feeling the affects this weekend.

GO AWAY FRANCES!

It is not just channel 10 although Don is one of the worst at it. It is really aggravating me. I know they don't know really yet but give me something more than that. Show me the different models so I can see it myself the options. I have seen the different models mainly becaiuse they have been posted on the boards.:D

It seems to me with them only showing the one projected track (which seems to miss us) and by saying "we dont know" so much that more people might be inclined to think that it isn't coming anywhere near and not prepare. My dad is one. He says if it was going to hit near us they would be more urgent in the reports. I don't know. I hope their caution does not backfire.

Feralpeg,

I'm not sure if closing everything is a good idea, I've been told that can build up pressure inside your home and could actually cause more damage, i.e. roof blowing off! Please tape your windows if you cannot board them. Criss-cross the whole window pane. At least, if they do break, there is less flying debris.

Evacuate if you can...without basements there is no lower ground for you to escape to. I have an Aunt that lives near Port Canaveral~we are trying to get her to go to her dughter's house in Georgia. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Good Luck to those who stay & Be Safe!

The cash is also good for businesses that don't have operating credit card machines after the hurricane.

Try watching Tom Terry on Channel 9 - they were the first to notice that Charley was changing course. We watched them all during Charley - except for the break we took to eat cookies and watch Lilo and Stitch with the kids!!

I remember as a kid sitting in the dark holding my cats (or tryin to) and listening to the radio. Not fun. Although my son knows - now - about hurricanes, hopefully I can keep him from being scared of them.

Actually, if the wind gets in your house (due to broken windows, sliding doors, etc) then your roof will probably be blown off. You want to keep the wind from coming INTO your house. Putting tape on windows isn't really helpful, tape won't stop a flying garbage can or larger debris from breaking a window. The best things to have to protect your windows are hurricane shutters or plywood.

Yes, they are telling us not to bother with tape. It won't help much. They just announced school closings. Orange and several other counties will be closed on Friday. The counties along the coast will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

The just said that the distance between Daytona and Tamp is 139 miles. The hurricane force winds will extend on either side of Frances' eye 75 miles. Most of Florida is going to feel this one.

No warnings or school closings here yet, but many people already have their shutters up, others are in the process of doing it and WE haven't even started putting ours up.

You are right though, most of FL will feel this one.
