DH and I want to buy a snowblower but we're not sure which one to get or from where. Sooooo...... if there is anyone out there who has one or used to have one and has an opinion they'd like to share, we'd love some input. Thanks!!
Well, I suppose I should promote Toro, but we have someone come and plow our driveway. It's nearly a tenth of a mile long, and I sure don't want to blow that.
I Dont Even Have To Look At Any Other Responses.......we Are Using A Toro And This Is Our Second One.......we Gave Our First One To Our Son And He Is Still Using It Too.......they Are Unbelievably Sturdy And Can Go And Go And Go.....if You Do Buy Any Snowblower.......not Matter What ....get One With A Cord So You Can Do An Electric Start......it Great On Some Of Those Cold Days......and Also Get A Can Of Furniture Polish Too........that Is To Put In The Shoot So The Snow Does Not Stick To It.......just A Hint.....
OH YAH OUR FIRST ONE WAS OVER TWENTY YEARS OLD ......BUT NOTHING WRONG WITH IT EXCEPT A NEW BELT...
Get the biggest one you can afford too. The smaller ones just don't work as well. If you can get one with the tent attachment thing you won't get as wet and snowy when you blow the snow.
I heard Pam, the cooking spray, works great in the shoot too.
Toro is one of the well accepted brands. We have had 2 over the past 30 years, current one is about10 years old, working fine.
As for the model, capacity and that, it depends on the size of the area you have to clear as well as the normal weather. If you live in northen MN, you need more than if you live in southern Arkansas. Where you are there in Michigan, especially if UP, would have a bearing on size and capacity.
We have a 9.0 HP electric start Craftsman from Sears. This will be our third winter with it. Prior to that we had someone plow our driveway for us. Our driveway is wide but not real long.
Last year a big piece broke off the chute part and Sears quickly replaced it for us. I don't think it was the fault of the machine since my husband ran into the side of the garage with it. Other than that, it has worked very well for us.
We bought ours last year at Lowes. Its only a 5.5 horsepower, but we have a small driveway. Although my DH ends up doing two other elderly neighbors drive ways as well since we don't want to see them out there shoveling.
