...I have found out that it will be closed until late, late June. Right now, the Hat is blocked up with a blue board for a little while too until further notice. I am uncertain of when the Hat store will be back up and running. I figure it would be sooner than GMR's rehab is done.

URGHHHH... my niece wants to ride The Great Movie ride.

Thanks for letting us know :)

Wonder what kind of rehab it will be, just cosmetic or updating of some of the movie clips or ????????
Anyone know?

Supposedly it has something to do with the impending loss of MGM in the park name; not sure how that is going to affect the MGM films that are depicted in the ride...

I don't mind some updating but I hope that we don't lose the Wizard of Oz. I keep seeing It's A Small World dolls being placed in that area.

Noooooooooooo I'm going in May and I love that ride! =( BooHoo!

I read on a website somewhere, (sorry, don't remember which one), that they are updating the film part at the end...you know, the montage. The site didn't say why though.

I haven't seen anything lately on the "MGM name is leaving" front. That surfaces every once in awhile because the agreement between Disney and MGM doesn't allow Disney to use the MGM name in certain marketing materials. So, people see the planning video that calls the park Disney Studios and the rumor starts again. In fact, when they show the park's sign in the video, MGM is even removed from the picture.

The rumor about the Mann theatre is that since Disney owns the competing El Capitan theater across the street from the real Mann, they don't want to promote the Mann in their park. Hence the BAH is put up, blocking the view.

We're going in May, so that's too bad for us if the GMR is going to be closed. Hunchback is already closed, so I guess we won't be spending quite as much time at MGM.

It's one of my favorite rides, but I guess they have to toss out classic in place of the likes of Inspector Gadget or Jungle Book 2

What a nightmare that would be.

My 5 year old DD is going to be so disappointed; it is her all time favorite ride. Here's hoping they get their work done faster than expected so it will be up and running in the beginning of June.:(

Ooh! I hope it's open by the time we get there in August! That's my favorite ride! :bounce:

Hey guys, I think it's more a cosmetic thing that anything, plus due to the recent budget situations going around, it was best to shut this down for a while too.

Here are 5 things that MGM went through or going through in the years to come:

1) Hunchback went down September 2002.
2) GMR is "rumoured" to go away forever next year. (I never believe people until I know for absolute sure.)
3) The MGM may be dropped by the end of 2003.
4) "Beauty and the Beast" have let go yet more dancers.
5) "Spectacle of Lights" might be in its final year at MGM for good. (Unless a new contract is drawn up. This may also have something to do with what they may do to the Hunchback stage.)

I'll keep ya posted as soon as I get more info.
