For those growing up in the 70s or 80s, this is too funny

:o Um.. yeah, back then we could make harmless prank phone calls at our sleep overs and the person didn't have caller ID or *69 so we wouldn't get busted!
So true!! We made our share of prank phone calls in junior high, mostly to boys we secretly liked!

I used to tape off the radio all the time, I probably still have some of those tapes!! LOL!!

The whole original post was just too funny!!

May I add something else?

You forgot to mention that when your father wanted to see what was on a different channel he would yell for you to come downstairs and change it for him. With your hand! On a knob! AND if he didn't like THAT program, he would call you to come down again 2 minutes later!

Kids these days!................
I was going to mention this too. Hell, I WAS the remote. I used to sit on the floor and lean against the chair next to the TV and change the channels when we wanted to "flip".

And when I was a kid, I actually had to roll down the car windows, with a crank! We even had to open the car doors, none of those fancy remote controlled sliders for us! And, we had to use a key to unlock the car doors.

Yeah, and the one that my own DD can't even begin to understand -

If we wanted to go to the mall or a friend's house - we had to WALK.

Oh, the trials and tribulations of growing up in the 70's.:p

remember when the knob would break off the T.V and you would have to use pilers to change the channel?

haaaa! yes!
I remember when VCR's with remotes came out. Notice I did not include "wireless" in remotes.

Remeber what we did before camcorders came out? Can you say "Super 8"? To this day, some of my best memories of family vacations have the clicking, whirring sound of a super 8 projector associated with them. And of course most super 8 setups did not include sound. Watching those old films now is like watching the Marcel Marceau family on vacation.

i told my dd9 about how we used to watch cartoons on Saturdays only and she looked at me she couldn't comprehend what I was saying.

Anyone remember the "video game" Pong??:teeth:

And school house rock and the conjunction junction and I'm just a bill??

Pong was the bomb! We had a game that played Pong like 7 different ways!

Remember the "songs" where they would tell stories and interject lines from songs? I think there was a Jaws one. My brother and I spent weeks trying to do one ourselves, waiting for the right line in the right song to come on.

We had Colecovision (with an Atari adapter). Did any of you play Venture? I can still remember the music from that game.

Denae

I was so happy when they put out the school rock DVD. Bought it when I saw it the first time.

I also love the "remakes" of songs today. I hear a song and my 9 year old goes " I love this new song" (Boys of summer)
What?!? It was a song from my time.

LOL I loved the song from Venture Mickeyboat! Of course now I can't get it out of my head! LOL

Reeddi--I thought I was probably the only person to ever buy the schoolhouse rock dvd! LOL My 5 year old was in the tub the other night singing the "I'm just a bill" song. LOL

BWAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAHAAAA! I call the remote control the "Clicker" because my parents were all cool and stuff and got one of the first remote controlled TV's when I was 10 or so. Teh remote had three buttons - clickers - to press - channel up, channel down, on/off. No volume, no guide, no flashback, just a plain darn clicker. And this was when I was 10 and they kept it in their bedroom!!!! 10 years of manual changing the channels and only if you got permission to be in their room did you get the luxury of a clicker.

My dad is a gem. We bought a Beta instead of a VHS because it had "better quality". We watched it go the way of the dinosaur. We bought an Intellivision instead of an Atari (better quality!) and we watched it go the way of the dinosaur.

Dad used to say he didn't mind spending a bit more for the best quality...but then we'd end spending twice as much when we had to buy a VHS and an Atari.

And we had ALL the home movies on Beta. Too bad.

This seems to be more 80's than 70's.

In the 70's we didn't have computers of any kind. I was excited to have an electric typewriter when I was in college, I saved up and bought a used one. My FIL worked for IBM and my DH got a PC jr, it had less memory than I carry for my digital camera.

Card catalogs were used to find things in the library, research was done by finding a book not a google search. I had to show my 12yo DD what an encylopedia was at the library last year. They have very few even there.

We didn't have VHS or Beta but my dad did do home movies with his super 8. They are pretty funny. One of my sisters transferred them to VHS and now we need to do it again and put them on DVD.

Remember when everyone stayed home if there was a popular movie being shown for the first time on TV that night. It wasn't like you could record it or borrow a tape of it from a friend. If you missed it, you missed it and might never get the chance to see it again.

Now, if we don't tape it, we just go out and rent it. That wasn't an option back in the 70's.

Remember when it was just 4 stations to watch on television; CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS? No cable, satellite, HBO or Cinemax. To get the UHF stations in good, you had to use rabbit ears or the giant atenna on top of the house. Takeout for dinner was really a treat in our house.
