For those DVC owners with an AP

We love our DVC resorts and rooms, we have stayed at SSR, VWL, AK new Kidani village which is our home resort. However we also have a travel trailer that we pull and stay in the campground, which is our most favorite place to stay. And instead of using points we pay out right for the stay in the camp ground. Usually getting a very good deal, pass holder discount as well as Florida Resident discounts.

Yes, because we are always out of points.

Last December our entire trip was in an AP discounted room for cash.

This year our first 2 nights were in an AP discounted room.

I THINK our whole trip next year will be on points because we just did an add-on. But last night DH said something about going twice next year, so there could be a second trip that requires an AP discounted cash room. :rolleyes1

OP here and I am so glad to hear these responses. I think DH thought I was crazy when I suggested it! We have only been DVC members for 2 years and certainly don't have enough points, yet :thumbsup2. I thought this would be a good option to fit in 3 trips instead of 2 per year.

I like the idea of a few nights in a value or mod to save points and the thought of the split DxDDP is a great idea as well.

I love all the tips I have been getting from these boards!!

We stayed at pop last night over memorial day. 80$ after 5 nights at SSR. It works out perfect if we come back on a sun morn. I also love FQ maybe even more than SSR, and with APs putting it at about 105$ it is a steal. .. When we go this Aug, I plan to book a FD bounce back for next labor day. I would rather stay 4 nights on FD, and 5 nights in a 1 bed room then 9 nights in a studio.

We just tacked on 3 nights in a BWV 1 BR during Wed-Fri of our August trip this year using the AP discount. Total cost - less than $950. The point cost would have been 98 points. All the benefits of renting points, but cheaper and without the risk. Plus, when I booked I couldn't have gotten BWV through MS w/ my points anyway. No availability.

Was this the price for a studio? where did you get a room, if I amy ask?
Thanks,
Tina

The room was at Animal Kingdom.
The Deluxe studio room is $234
The price for a AK Lodge Room is $195

Full Rack Rate is $390
MS offered it to me for $362

I wish we could just get the cheaper rate through DVC.

I just did this earlier in the month. Found super cheap airfare and decided to do a spur of the moment trip - all of the few points we own were tied up for our December trip. We stayed at POP for 2 nights on AP rate.

When we go back in December with my parents, sister and her husband we were just going to do a Sunday-Friday trip at AKV to save on points (we rented pts for their rooms). Well, we all got the bug to stay a couple of nights more so at least for our room we'll be able to use an AP rate - probably at POP as that's DS favorite hotel. We'll stay there 2 nights before heading over to AKV.

We only own enough DVC points for our annual "big" Disney trip in December. So when we go any other time during the year, we typically use AP discounts. We also like to use the opportunity to stay in resorts that don't have a DVC component (like the Poly) or to try DVC resorts we've never stayed in (tried our SSR in March and really enjoyed it).

Whenever my flights don't shore up correctly to my DVC reservation I add a night with an AP discount. This time I need to leave Saturday to save $100 each on the flights so a $200 AP rate for a Savannah view at AKL is less than the flight difference and gives me an extra day before checking into AKV savannah view. The move will be easy since we are in the same resort.

When the kids were smaller we would go for a long weekend if I could score goood airfare--oh how I miss those $39 and $59 flights! We'd do three or four nights at POP or an AS with flights, food, room and Halloween party tickets we'd stay under $600. Becasue two of those nights were always weekend nights it didn't make sense to use points.
