I just had a great workout at the Y and had to share....
I can walk 30 minutes on the treadmill at 3.6 with no problem- I much prefer walking outside but this gets the pace in my head. I'm trying to build up to a 4.0 speed- so here's what I did...
Walked at 3.6 for 5 minutes- then upped it to 3.8 for one then 4.0 for one then back to 3.8 for one then back to 3.6... my heart rate went up but the trainer said as long as the up part is less than 3 minutes it's actually great for your heart. So I repeated this at minute 15 and 25- and boy- is 4.0 every booking it- if I had some of those WISH song themes in my head I would have been rocking!!
But remember I am 219 pounds- and 5'7- my gait may be longer than some of you but I've got the equivalent of two extra children on me (weight wise!)-
But at the 4.0 pace- which is a 15 minute mile- I realized my steps were about 120 steps per minute- meaning left/right = 2 steps actually probably closer to 125-130 but that gives me an idea when I'm walking on the street as to what my pace is.
So let's get that pace up so we can meet that 16 minute mile pace for 13 miles- at this point I think I could keep a 16 minute mile up for 3 miles and have to break into a jog to keep it at that for the others- boy we need some WISH music to keep us motivated- anyone willing to download some MP3's that will last the full 13 miles?
Keep it up walker/runners/joggers! Only 19 more months to go!
