What do you do when you are having a high carb day? I didn't plan very well today and I am going to go over in carbs. I'm suppose to be on induction but I'm not following it completely. Although I am trying to stay under 22 grams of carbs today. Here are my carbs thus far:

B: 1 slice of toast - 6 g Coffee w/flavored cream - 2tbsp 14
L: Tuna Salad - 1 carbs for Mayo
S: Grapes ( about 7 not sure on carbs), a Hershey's Treasure - I just couldn't resist.

So as you can see I'm already over on the carbs. I was going to make this Nacho Chicken dish not thinking that Cream of Chicken Soup would have carbs - well it does about 10 of them per serving The rest of the ingredients are just chicken and cheese.

So now I'm really craving my dinner that I had planned but don't want to go over on the carbs.

What would you do? I could make the dinner tonight and just be extra good tomorrow.

I say make your dinner but try not to eat too much of the "sauce" with the cream soup in it. That way, you won't eat a full serving of it and it will minimize the damage.

Induction is tough, especially if you're new to low carb. Maybe you should try staying at 40 grams of carbs per day for a few days until you get the hang of it. Then you can do induction and it won't be such a shock to your body.

Don't beat yourself up - just resolve to follow your plan from now on.

It will take more planning, but induction will go better (and be better for you) if you get your carbs (during induction) strictly from salads and salad vegetables. It's important to be eating the right carbs to get the proper nutrition and to cure your "carb addiction". I think it might help if you review the rules of induction - those 20 grams of carbs should be coming from very specific things during induction. If you follow the induction rules precisely, you won't be hungry and it will be lots easier to resist those "Treasures".

Best wishes -

I agree with Carol. Put today behind you and work on your plan.

You may be low-carbing, but you're not doing Atkins, nor are you doing induction... you know that, right?

As long as you're losing to your satisfaction... go ahead and continue to low carb.

If you keep craving Treasures, you're not losing, etc. - try a real induction... no toast, no grapes, no canned cream of anything soups (you can actually make your own cream of whatever soup with no starches... much better on carbs).

If you decide to do an Atkins induction, borrow the book from the library, buy it, or visit these pages at www.atkins.com for the "rules": Induction 101 and Acceptable Foods
