For those Canadians living near YYZ or YVR

Our DCL Alaksa cruise is in just over 2 months. I have been watching the flight prices pretty much daily since last fall. It was $780 YYZ to YVR for the days and times I want (no red eyes - I have young kids). I figured $780 was not a great price so I waited for a sale... and waited... and now the price is over $900! seriously, even a direct flight Toronto to Seattle is way less than that! What is the issue with YYZ to YVR - there must be 15 flights a day, so I was hoping for a better deal. I guess not.
End of rant about domestic flight prices in Canada.
We will either be paying $900 or will have to reconsider the days and times we are flying.

I flew YYZ to YVR in March for about $560. There was a seat sale about a month before and I grabbed the flights then. It was on Westjet and it was for good times I thought. Like 2pm going there and noonish coming back.

What if you go through Calgary. Is it the same craziness? What about out of Hamilton?

I guess it can't hurt to look at the price from Buffalo to Seattle and see if you'd save anything that way, but it seems a shame.

Have you considered flying to Seattle and driving up to Vancouver?? It's only about 3hrs

Pretty much any flight anywhere out of Pearson is expensive. A large part of it is the airport taxes. You can fly out of Buffalo for almost half. My father usually drives to Buffalo and stays overnight at a hotel that allows him to keep his car there or parks at the Buffalo airport. It's still less expensive to do that including the hotel and dinner and breakfast and parking than to fly out of Pearson. Unfortunately, we never seem to be able to find flights at the right time for when we fly. We're stuck with Pearson.

What days are you looking to fly? I find Air Canada has cheaper rates mid-week, if that helps. Have you checked West Jet?

Have you looked at flying to Abbotsford, BC? WestJet has flights from YYZ to YXX on sale. They are connecting through Edmonton though. I don't know your travel dates, but looking 2 months ahead, flights from YYZ to YXX are around $495 return. Mapquest shows Abbotsford to be about an hour from Vancouver.

@AAAG: Looking at another post.... I think you are travelling mid-August. Vancouver is hosting the Americas Masters and you may be flying in when competitors are ramping up their training.. Some say this is the Olympics without the hype.
