Subject: New Survivor show....

Have you heard about the next planned "Survivor"
show?

Three businessmen and three businesswomen will be dropped into 3 elementary school classrooms for 6 weeks.

Each business person will be provided with a copy of his/her school
district's curriculum, and a class of 28 students.

Each class will have five learning-disabled children, three with A.D.D., one gifted child, and two who speak limited English.

Three will be labeled with severe behavior problems.

Each business person must complete lesson plans at least 3 days in advance with annotations for curriculum objectives and
modify, organize, or create materials accordingly.

They will be required to teach students, handle misconduct, implement
technology, document attendance, write referrals, correct homework, make bulletin boards, compute grades, complete report cards, document benchmarks, communicate with parents, and arrange parent conferences.

They must also supervise recess and monitor the hallway In addition, they
will complete drills for fire, tornadoes, and shooting attacks.

They must attend 100 hours of workshops, faculty meetings, union meetings, and curriculum development meetings.

They must also tutor those students who are behind and strive to get their non-English speaking children proficient enough to take the TAKS tests. Of course all the students will need to pass the Proficiency tests. If
they are sick or having a bad day, they must not let it show, Each day they
must incorporate reading, writing, math, science, and social studies into
their program.

They must maintain discipline and provide an educationally stimulating
environment at all times.

The business people will only have access to the golf course on the
weekends, but on their new salary they will not b e able to afford it anyway.

There will be no access to vendors who want to take them out to lunch, and
lunch will be limited to 30 minutes. On days when they do not have recess
duty, the business people will be permitted to use
the staff restroom as long as another survival candidate is supervising their
class.

They will be provided with two, 40-minute planning periods per week while
their students are at activity classes. If the copier is operable, they may make copies of necessary materials at this time. Otherwise they may need to visit Kinkos to make copies at their own expense.

The business people must continually advance their own education on their
own time, and pay for this advanced training themselves. This can be
accomplished by moonlighting at a second job or marrying someone with money.

Also, each pay day will reflect a reduced pay check. Contrary to popular belief teachers receive no vacations. They are contract workers and paid by the day. To make it look like they do receive paid vacations their pay schedules are spread over twelve months rather than the ten months for which they are contracted .

The winner of this Survivor show will be allowed to return to his or her
former job. The losers will be laid off for ten weeks without pay or the right to claim unemployment checks.

It is a darn good thing we absolutely LOVE our jobs isn't it?

Ohhhhh boy!!!
Another Teacher Gods -vs- Hostile Parents thread.

IMHO, this whole thing is really self-righteous and misguided... let's take ANY profession and just dump them into the workload of a very different and demanding profession without any training, or consideration to whether they are cut out for it or not.. :confused3

Let's take young housewifes and make them the foreman of a major Road Construction Project... 28 employees, etc.. etc...

But, hey, let the teachers have a field day with this one... :sunny:

I love that!! It is SOOOO true!!

I gave up teaching 4th grade when my 1st child was born. I can't imagine going back now. I did so much work, planning, grading, etc. on my own time (just like ALL of my colleagues). I don't know how I'd do it AND have 3 kids!!!

Teachers in general get all my respect, but those with their own children get MAJOR kudos!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Of course every profession has to have training and evey job has its downside. I could never be a nurse. I'm too wimpy to be a firerfighter, and I don't have the drive to be a buisness person. However every job has the right to laugh at themselves, and eveyone has the need to feel wanted. It's usually those who do the most important work (teacher, firefighter, policeman, etc. ) and who get so little pay for what they do that need to feel appreciated.

Don't flame me for spelling errors, I'm a French teacher, not an English teacher!
