I don't really get the tagging thing anyway. When I was a kid playing in the yard, nobody WANTED to get tagged...then they would have to be IT!

DH is a high school teacher. He was teaching a psyc class, talking about different parenting aspects in working families. A student asked him, "Mr. M, what do you and your wife do with your kids when you work?" DH explained, "We tag-team parent." Student asked, "What is THAT?" Dh replied, "Wife stays home while I work in the daytime, then when I get home, I tag her and she goes to work while I stay home."

I didn't know that "tagging" someone had the alternative meaning that it apparently has...the whole class cracked up.

I don't want to interupt your little party, but just a warning about that 'spy'. Aidensmom, if that is his/her real name, is a stalker, and worse than a spy, a regular at Walmart.

Nope, couldn't CARE less if I get tagged or not. I know I'll never say anything clever enough for the Tag Faries to want to tag. I post late at nite & my posts are buried by the A.M.

Also, it might not have been intended this way, but it is real cliquey to me & a big turn off. This board is supposed to be a placwe for finding & sharing commonalities within a COMMUNITY. The fact that some have been tagged, others want to be so desperately, is about separation, not togetherness. Like this board really needs that.

I work around a lot of famous & important people. Some are great, some are real jerks, you wouldn't know by their PR or their "tags" in society. I'll always remember a lesson I learned when someone asked me, "Do you really need to be associated with ______ to feel a sense of significance?" I realized, "No I don't!" My sense of self comes from ME, who I am, what I do that I know has value - whether other people acknowledge it or not. It doesn't come because someone singled me out & put a fancy title or "tag" on me.

I only VISIT this board. While people have helped me, I don't live here & get my sense of Self from here.

Lastly, to be quite honest, I never read anyone's tags! I'm too busy reading & responding to people's posts, not some arbitrary tag tacked on.

I don't think that it's cliquey here exactly, but once people have been posting here for a long time there ends up being "in" jokes, etc that someone who hasn't been here for long might not get. I've been on the DIS for years, but in the Community forum for about a year and at first I had a hard time keeping up. After reading and posting for awhile I started to understanding more about the posters, their inside jokes, etc. It became more fun at that point. But I'm also the type to jump in and in real life have always hated cliques, so that might have helped.

As to the tags, most of mine I've given myself. With my current tags, only the last one was given by the tag fairy. The do it yourself ones are fun and sometimes the TF will colorize them, which is what happened to me.
