I try very hard to make punishments the natural consequence of behavior, and to never make idol threats. So...

Today I caught my boys smashing Goldfish. I was a little distracted by something and the phrase "If you don't stop smashing the Goldfish, you will never eat Goldfish ....for the rest of the week!"


YES! I managed to stop before I got to the "again", and replace it with a punishment I was willing to follow through with! Bad grammar aside, I feel pretty good about catching my slip up.

Yes the crackers! They aren't allowed to smash real fish this week OR next week!

I think consistency and follow through on your word is two of the most important things you can do as a parent.

I have caught myself in that exact situation.....don't it feel good when you make "the save".
