For the amount of time I spend at a room is Deluxe resort necessary?

My family and I plan going to disney world for a few weekends this year. But, we are planning a two week visit in Jan. 2004 and will be staying on-site, like always. For the amount of money that we have spent i the past on a deluxe resort it does not seem necessary for staying there. I would rather use the money on dining another things. Giving me all you got. Thanks For The Help in Advance.

If not a deluxe, the mods are great. I particularly like Port Orleans either Riverside or French Quarter. IMHO, I do not like the value resorts and would prefer not to stay at one if I can help it and the pocketbook supports it!

I think you might have answered your own question. When people ask is a deluxe worth the money my response is that it depends on what type of vacation experiance you and your traveling party are looking for.

It is just my husband and I. We have been many times and no longer do commando park touring therefore we enjoy the time we spend relaxing around the resort. Our budget is also such that we do not have to not have meals at our faviorate places just so we can stay at a deluxe.

Ask yourself what is my total vacation budget for this trip? If you think that staying at a deluxe will cause you to cut out doing somethings that you like to do then I would suggest that you evaluate which is more important to you.

The deluxes are worth it to us but each person needs to make that decison for themselves based on their budget and tastes.

For me, the more often I go the less time I spend in the parks so I like a bigger room at a nicer resort. If I plan to hardly be in the room I will book a moderate. The next trip I will start out at a moderate and do lots of parks and then slow down toward the end of the trip and move to a deluxe....I hope. Depends on if any codes come out.

If you have a set budget, there are too many other cool things to spend your money on at WDW than the hotel room. For us 200-300 dollars is just too much for us, we'd rather go to Cirque or fireworks cruise. To me I can't justify that much money for a hotel room, even if I can afford it.

I was very tempted to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge this year because I like the rates but I decided to go with POR to save some money for meals and the like. If you do decide on a deluxe, why not consider AKL or WL? The rooms are smaller but otherwise I think they're quite nice and the prices are good so far this year.

We always felt the way you do about spending money for a resort where you only sleep. Then we tried a deluxe (actually three) and have very different feelings now. If we were going for a weekend like you do most of the time a moderate or value would be fine. We found that on a longer trip the deluxes are great! You have more time to slow down and smell the roses so to speak. There is more to do at the deluxes, the pools are themed which the kids love (Storm Along Bay at BC is awesome), some have beaches and boats. There are great restaurants. We love sitting on the balconies. It's great seeing the castle and fireworks across the lake, animals just off your balcony, or a lakeside wedding. We plan on trying all of the deluxes.

We will be going in May on a tight budget with our 2 kids. We are planning on staying at ASMo for most of our trip. However, I'm in love with the idea of a Savannah view room at AKL. My plan right now is to just switch to AKL for our last 2 nights when we will be more tired and in the room more. That way we get to experience AKL without breaking the budget. I guess you really just have to figure out what will work best for you.

My feelings are very similar to Tiffany's.

Deluxes are definately worth it to my family as we look at the resort as a big part of the trip (whether at WDW or elsewhere).

We have stayed at the Poly and BWI, both were wonderful in their own way but we really got hooked on BWI. We loved the night time atmosphere on the BW. We were out there every night watching (sometimes interacting with) the entertainers and getting a late snack or dessert. We loved the pool and spent time almost each afternoon at the pool/poolbar.

We only go for one week at a time, so a possible thought if you are going for two weeks is to stay the first week at a value or moderate resort then move to a deluxe for the second week or last 5 days or something. You may be ready to slow your pace by then and enjoy your resort more.

For us, they only way to go is a deluxe. I can't imagine spending a week in a double bed with DH (6'4"). Otherwise, I'm tempted to try POFQ.

My thoughts exactly - I was wondering myself why were we spending the money for WL since we had been at the Poly 3 years earlier, paid less, and had the monorail. We're never in the room I told myself. Then we ended up in florida during one of the rainiest weeks during any December. We were in our room a lot between the rain and the shorter park hours. We had a great time even with the rain but were glad we were in a deluxe for the amount of time we spent there!!

I agree with Tiffany that you need to do what is right for your group. We're going again this year in December and staying at YC b/c we found we wanted more dining choices at night and in case of rain. I'd make a list of what is important to you and what you can do without and see where your preferences take you!

I think the older I'm getting . . .the more money conscience I've become . . .

We've stayed deluxe for the past three WDW visits . . .I love the convenience of just hopping on the monorail and heading back to our room to take a break . . .and of course the lagoon/castle views from our balcony . . .BUT when I look back at all the money we've spent, how much time did we actually spend at our resort? Not much . . .

This trip we'll be staying at a moderate (DH won't stay offsite anymore) but we'll be getting connecting rooms . . .as a family of 4 we really found it kinda tight with just one bathroom and god knows nobody wanted to use it after DH got out of it . . .lol So we decided we'd be better off staying at CBR or POR and although the convenience factor isn't there, we'll still have a blast!

I've never stayed at a Deluxe, so I don't know what I'm missing, I suppose. In fact, I've only stayed on property once before, at CBR. I was considering trying a deluxe this time, and had even had it all priced out, could afford it, etc. But then, I did the math on a moderate, and realized that the $1000Cdn extra I wouldn't be spending on the room could be spent not counting the cost of anything else we wanted to do. I've had that luxury once before (it was in Cancun on our honeymoon ), and to me, that's worth more than a few extra square feet and a private balcony

We loved CBR, especially the pool and the hot tub, and didn't feel we were missing out on anything. And we're looking forward to POFQ this time.

That said, I suppose if anyone asked the question whether it was necessary to stay in a moderate, or would value do, I suppose my minimum requirement (a hottub) would become apparent. So I suppose it depends on what your minimum requirement is. If it's a balcony, or indoor access to your room, than a deluxe would be necessary. But, if all the amenities you need are available in a moderate, that's probably the way to go. And then go and do an Epcot tour, or have dinner at V&A's, or something else extravagant.
