I'm looking for info on Crossville and Fairfield Glade TN. Is it a nice area? What is there to do there for a family?

I was offered a chance to stay free for a week in June at the Fairfield Glade Resort but I don't know anything about the area. Thanks for any help. :sunny:

I'm not far from Crossville. I don't know much about the area, heck didn't even know that there was a golf resort over there. Here is a website about the resort, maybe that will help you http://www.fairfieldglade.org/index.php

I think the Fairfield Glade area is known mainly for its golf courses. It has been several years since I have been there, but they were supposed to be very good courses at that time. As for other activities, I'm not very sure how far you would want to travel. When I think of this area, I mainly think of outdoor activities like hiking, water falls or white water rafting. Crossville is located on the Cumberland Plateau and is surrounded by a lot of natural areas that have not been developed. I think most of these areas are so untouched that there might not be any organized activities where you could explore them. The Obed River in Crossville is a very difficult river to raft on but experienced white water rafters might be interested. There is a state park, Fall Creek Falls, that is not that far away that has a large water fall and lots of outdoor activites. Crossville also has a theater group called the Cumberland County Playhouse that might be worth checking out. Other than that, you are pretty much half way between Nashville and Knoxville and the Smokies.

I've stayed at this resort 3 times, and will be there again this summer.

It is absolutely geared towards golfers, and I don't golf. However, there is a large outdoor family pool, a smaller indoor pool, miniature golf course, some nice walking paths, fish and ducks to feed, playgrounds, a small shopping center with a grocery and restaurant, a stable, tennis, and multiple family activities during the week. There is a wonderful fitness center on site, but young children are not allowed; I think they had to be over 16?

There were also day trips, but we found it easier to drive. I remember going to a cave, and also spent a day in Knoxville, and went to Oak Ridge. Chattanooga and Nashville would be full day trips.

The last time we were there, I felt very comfortable letting DS (11) walk to the grocery by himself, as our condo was less than a mile. I actually enjoyed the first visit, but I really didn't want to go back again. The golfers in DH's family outvoted me. (I'm going for a family reunion)

Thanks for all the info. It sounds really nice. Were there many families with kids there when you went?
